Geographic areas served: Southern Arizona
Programs: GAP Ministries, a social service nonprofit serving Southern Arizona since 1999, serves in three core areas: Family, Community and Ministry. Our mission is to Stand in the GAP for those in need because people need hope, help & healing to navigate life. GAP cares for foster children and works toward the healthy restoration of families. We provide food and necessary items to the needy through outreach and partnerships. GAP believes that through the practical expression of God’s love we can impact the lives of children, families and communities with destiny, one life at a time. FAMILY: GAP cares for over 300 foster children annually in family style group homes in Tucson. Siblings are able to stay together while in care due to the larger size of our homes. GAP helps foster teens and young adults learn the life skills necessary to successfully “age out” of foster care and into adulthood with mentoring and independent living programs. To better deal with the root causes of the foster care crisis, GAP has begun supervised visitation programs with the birth parents, as well as training and licensing of foster parents. It is our desire and goal to see healthy restoration of families when possible. GAP’s reach even extends overseas to support a group home in Thailand for young children rescued from the sex industry. COMMUNITY: GAP’s Community warehouse shares fresh food and basic needs items with over 70 Southern Arizona nonprofits serving the needy. Over 1 million pounds of healthy vegetables, fruit, and other perishable items are distributed annually throughout the community by GAP’s partnering nonprofits and churches. Throughout Southern Arizona, nonprofits that serve the marginalized annually receive over $1,000,000 worth of hygiene items, paper goods, cleaning supplies and other needed items from GAP’s warehouse. Through partnerships with nonprofits, churches, businesses, schools and hundreds of volunteers, GAP’s outreaches serve food, backpacks, and toys at Christmas to low-income children and their families. Our Community Kitchen and Mobile Food Truck train young people in the culinary arts, while maximizing the use of donated perishable food and feeding thousands in the community. MINISTRY: GAP also serves the community through prayer and worship ministries. Our OneLife Internship allows those interested in combining community social services with their faith, the opportunities to minister to the disenfranchised in our city and beyond. Current Programs: • SPLASH Houses: Fourteen (14) family-style group homes in Tucson for children 0-21 in the custody of the state due to neglect or abuse • MERGE & STEP: In-house and independent living programs to help teens and young adults discover their potential and age successfully out of foster care into independent adulthood • FOSTER CARE TRAINING & LICENSING: Allowing individuals and couples to become foster parents and fill the need for the 17,000 children in Arizona needing families, either temporary or permanent • FOSTER CARE VISITATION: Facilitating supervised visits between foster children and biological parents BOOST Community Resources: warehousing and distributing food and household necessities to over 70 Southern Arizona nonprofits that serve the needy • ROOT 52 Community Kitchen & Food Truck: Reclaiming highly perishable food that would otherwise go to waste, while reclaiming lives through culinary arts training and certification • Holiday of Hope and Backpack2School: collaborating with businesses, churches, government and civic groups, and hundreds of volunteers to serve disadvantaged children

Old Pueblo Community Services (OPCS) provides transitional programs (housing, substance abuse counseling and employment programs) for \homeless veterans, chronically homeless or persons recently released from institutions who are reintegrating into the community. When first arriving in our programs with no financial resources, personal items, clothing and nutrition are big issues. The GAP Ministries BOOST program has been a lifesaver for OPCS providing fresh produce and groceries, personal hygiene items and household items that give these folks a fresh start in the community. Thank you GAP Ministries!

Having worked at another non-profit that works with the foster care system, I can really appreciate the dedication of GAP ministries personnel to the children living in the "system". Their Splash homes and the "home parents" really make these kids feel as though they are a part of a family. That would be a good enough review for any such organization, but GAP ministries is so much more! Their backpack ministry, food, clothing and household ministry where they provide the resources for all non-profits to have an opportunity to help their particular focus group puts GAP ministries over the top. This ministry not only cares for its own, but for the Tucson community at large. It is more comprehensive than anything I have ever seen! We are blessed to have them here!

We are a non-profit dedicated to helping the homeless and needy. Gap Ministries has helped us in many ways, primarily in sharing food and other items with us! We also have been able to schedule meetings in their beautiful facility. Gap has a heart for ALL needy, not just the amazing numbers of youth they serve.
They are without equal in our community!

When I first heard about Gap it was a food outreach in Greg and Pam's garage. I have been so blessed to be a part of the amazing growth from Greg and Pam's garage to impacting the whole city of Tucson. Just recently I was told by a member of the community how much Gap helped keeps the doors open of the facility that she worked at by partnering with them to provide basic necessities.
Gap has allowed children to experience the joy of receiving brand new school supplies and backpacks, presents under the Christmas tree and most importantly having the ability to live in a safe and loving home.

Where to start? Pam and Greg started with a seed of "How can we help kids? They mixed that with lots of love and passion to see hurting kids feel like a family. Now there are so many SPLASH houses and other ministries in Tucson it is mind boggling. I am a teacher in Tucson - I taught at one of the schools where GAP did BACKPACKS for SCHOOLS! The delight on the kids faces as they got their own beautiful, new backpack was priceless. More priceless snapshots in my mind were seeing the delight on foster children's faces at birthday celebrations and family vacations, family movie night, and playing at the pool and....oh so many more - as the underserved foster kids who live at SPLASH Houses got their first taste of family life that was joyful and full of love. I will never forget a child, with tears in her eyes telling me "I have never celebrated my birthday - is that cake mine? Are those presents mine? Is that all for me? " She was 10 that year. Thanks GAP MInistries for touching so many lives!
