Programs: GAP Ministries, a social service nonprofit serving Southern Arizona since 1999, serves in three core areas: Family, Community and Ministry. Our mission is to Stand in the GAP for those in need because people need hope, help & healing to navigate life. GAP cares for foster children and works toward the healthy restoration of families. We provide food and necessary items to the needy through outreach and partnerships. GAP believes that through the practical expression of God’s love we can impact the lives of children, families and communities with destiny, one life at a time. FAMILY: GAP cares for over 300 foster children annually in family style group homes in Tucson. Siblings are able to stay together while in care due to the larger size of our homes. GAP helps foster teens and young adults learn the life skills necessary to successfully “age out” of foster care and into adulthood with mentoring and independent living programs. To better deal with the root causes of the foster care crisis, GAP has begun supervised visitation programs with the birth parents, as well as training and licensing of foster parents. It is our desire and goal to see healthy restoration of families when possible. GAP’s reach even extends overseas to support a group home in Thailand for young children rescued from the sex industry. COMMUNITY: GAP’s Community warehouse shares fresh food and basic needs items with over 70 Southern Arizona nonprofits serving the needy. Over 1 million pounds of healthy vegetables, fruit, and other perishable items are distributed annually throughout the community by GAP’s partnering nonprofits and churches. Throughout Southern Arizona, nonprofits that serve the marginalized annually receive over $1,000,000 worth of hygiene items, paper goods, cleaning supplies and other needed items from GAP’s warehouse. Through partnerships with nonprofits, churches, businesses, schools and hundreds of volunteers, GAP’s outreaches serve food, backpacks, and toys at Christmas to low-income children and their families. Our Community Kitchen and Mobile Food Truck train young people in the culinary arts, while maximizing the use of donated perishable food and feeding thousands in the community. MINISTRY: GAP also serves the community through prayer and worship ministries. Our OneLife Internship allows those interested in combining community social services with their faith, the opportunities to minister to the disenfranchised in our city and beyond. Current Programs: • SPLASH Houses: Fourteen (14) family-style group homes in Tucson for children 0-21 in the custody of the state due to neglect or abuse • MERGE & STEP: In-house and independent living programs to help teens and young adults discover their potential and age successfully out of foster care into independent adulthood • FOSTER CARE TRAINING & LICENSING: Allowing individuals and couples to become foster parents and fill the need for the 17,000 children in Arizona needing families, either temporary or permanent • FOSTER CARE VISITATION: Facilitating supervised visits between foster children and biological parents BOOST Community Resources: warehousing and distributing food and household necessities to over 70 Southern Arizona nonprofits that serve the needy • ROOT 52 Community Kitchen & Food Truck: Reclaiming highly perishable food that would otherwise go to waste, while reclaiming lives through culinary arts training and certification • Holiday of Hope and Backpack2School: collaborating with businesses, churches, government and civic groups, and hundreds of volunteers to serve disadvantaged children

Most every non-profit contributes to their community, but GAP goes above and beyond...they not only support one group of people or agency, but numerous. Yes, their focus Is on the children but there's so much more to GAP! They have a warehouse with donations and what they can't use, they provide to other non-profits...I've never heard of anyone else doing that! GAP is also community focused. They work with schools, numerous community agencies that help people, and various other groups in Tucson. What a GREAT organization!
And, the staff and volunteers at GAP are so personable! I have only volunteered there for a few weeks and everyone I meet is smiling, helpful, and genuine. I truly enjoy volunteering at GAP!

I volunteered for Gap Ministries for one year as a tutor for kids in one particular foster home in Gap's network of homes. I also did some manual labor to help renovate an agricultural building to house a summer camp. As for my work in a Gap Splash house, the foster parents were great. They were loving, but also provided necessary boundaries for the kids living with them. The administration provided necessary background training for me, and was very supportive. Facilities were first-rate, and community involvement was, frankly, amazing. Local and national businesses are very generous to Gap, and Gap seems to have created "critical mass" in their efforts to reach local youth and provide loving, encouraging environments for kids going through serious family issues. As someone who was going through some difficult transitions myself when I volunteered, I can gladly say that Gap Ministries and the kids I served probably did more for me than I did for them!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I can't think of anything that I would change, though I'm sure there are always things that can improve. For a relatively small organization, Gap is extremely well organized. I ascribe that to the fact that both Greg and Pam Ayers have a rich professional experience that they have been able to apply to the operation of Gap Ministries.

I have had the joy of working with children in the GAP foster homes. What an amazing environment! The house parents, support staff, and admin staff do a great job of running a smooth, loving operation. I have never seen any organization do so much in a place where the need is so great. Keep up the good work1

I found GAP by the grace of God. I was trying to help my church and then began volunteering. Just being there everyday and around the people there made me feel great. I got such a sense of accomplishment everyday no matter what I did. I knew there was people out there that were going to be blessed by this organization. This place walks and talks the spirit.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

There would be nothing.

I have had the opportunity to volunteer for a few of their events. The amount of help and goodwill that touched many families is impressive. In these times, GAP Ministries really does stand in the gap for individuals and families.

GAP is great at what it does, it helps serve the community and the children in its program. Not only do they support their own children but they help other organizations in the process. Working with GAP may not be physically draining but sometimes more mentally, but the eternal reward is much more fulfilling than anything you can do.

I can't begin to tell you have much GAPministries has meant to the lives of hundreds of children in the Tucson area of Arizona. I have seen it in the lives of the children who, many for the first time in their lives, have known what it is to touch a loving hand and hear a caring word.
Our church has cooperated in a yearly trip from Utah to Gap in help in construction and remodel needs and any other needs the ministry has. During those weeks we have seen first hand how these young lives have been helped and have seen kids who have graduated become solid citizens as adults.
Not only has Gap touched the lives of the children but also all of us who have the privilege of helping as volunteers. Most of us will never be the same.
I highly recommend this nonprofit for your consideration.

I have been associated with GAP Ministries for over 12 years now and have been thoroughly impressed with the loving care that is given to these children. Coming from such desperate backgrounds, they are given love, acceptance and guidelines to help them turn their lives around and overcome the dysfunction of their past. For some of these children, it's the first time they have felt genuine love and guidance. I highly endorse this ministry to children and believe it is changing the course of scores of lives. I applaud the heart and effort shown by Greg and Pam Ayers in this difficult but needed endeavor.
