Visiting the art gallery and reviewing the beautiful objects created by these artists...WOW! I am so impressed with the talents displayed by these artists. My sister Gina who is a relative new artist in the gallery has for years painted pictures for herself and other family members. Her passion and interests are clearly observed in her work! All the artwork in the gallery just tugs at my heart. Showcase these artists!!

The Great!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Seek out website assistance from local community or colleges to expand showcasing the gallery! Keep up the great art work!

Mother of one of the heARTists and wife of a community artist, I volunteer twice/monthly to weekly. Most recently, February 2010, I have helped at Thursday heART classes that run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is wonderful to see the joy and satisfaction of these Friendship Community artists as they create paintings that have been entered in contests, made into card form, and/or sold. It is wonderful to see them develop their special interests and art forms, and to see them improve or perfect those special interests over time. It is wonderful to see their smiling eyes and the satisfaction on their faces, knowing they are growing and creating in ways that they have not had opportunity in the past. It is wonderful when the heArtists, staff and volunteers develop friendshios and care for one another. Tucker has so overwhelmingly given of herself in putting this program together and in keeping it on track, and having far exceded the time-frame goals. Friendship Community and families, the Ephrata community and Lancaster County, and residents and caregivers from as far as Reading and Harrisburg have benefitted from this wonderful endeavor!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the way it has enhansed the indivuals self-concepts, and their satisfaction in what they accomplish.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

dedicated & completely committed. I see commitment & genuine caring for one another. I see staff and volunteers bringing in supplies, books, pictures and other materials that enhance individual heARTists particular interests & goals

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

WOW! They could hire enough staff, and still keep the volunteers, and expand the program to bless and benefit even more indivuals!

I recently have become a weekly volunteer at the Heart of Friendship and simply love it! I am developing relationships with the 6 artists that are in the class on Thursdays and also am getting to know some wonderful volunteers and local artists, as well. Tucker is such a precious person and the perfect pick as the Director of the gallery. She has such patience and is so very loving with the students who attend the art classes. They just adore her always calling to her to come and see what they have created and she always happily gives them her full attention. It is a true honor for me to have been given the opportunity to volunteer at the gallery. All of the students in the class have been such a blessing to me...each week I am so filled with joy when I leave to go home. My hope is that everyone will come into the Heart of Friendship and visit the gallery...browse among the wonderful offerings and see what it is all about. This is a true treasure among the community!

Wow! I have been shopping at the HeART of Friendship for over 1 1/2 years... the mission excpetional and the artwork gorgeous. For Xmas this year, my parents bought each one of us kids a masterpiece from HeART of Friendship. I'm the proud owner of 4 Trees by Friendship Artist Galen Brubaker. On the back of my piece, I learn more about the artist. "Galen is a quiet and focused worked. His art tends to be very geometric and planned.. Galen also likes to laught, and often breaks out in a broad smile during art sessions." I work in the Oriental Rug Room at Ten Thousand Villages in Ephrata and we work hard to let all of our customers know details about the 850 families we work with in Pakistan... but HeART of Friendship does this with ease and with sophistication.. Value added for folks that are looking for art... Art with so much more behind it. A PRICELESS store, a gem of historic Ephrata! Thank you for bringing this store to Ephrata!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

It empowers those who otherwise are viewed with little power and gives them a public venue for which to show their art. PLUS (and it's a huge plus) it brings their art to the general public and says to the world "We Are ARTISTS!"

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

outgoing, friendly, educated, caring, obviously passionate, dedicated!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the way the world looks at those with developmental challenges and would create so many more avenues through which persons with developmental challenges could experience empowerment.

Ways to make it better...

i would have more walls to display the artwork!

My daughter,Emily Purdy is autistc and a very gifted artist. She recieves services from the adult community autism program here in Harrisburg,pa. Her behavioral specialist told us about the heART of friendship gallery in Ephrata as a possible place to show and sell some of her art. We went there with her and a portfolio of some of her art. Tucker Yeaworth was very kind and gracious. She took some of Emily's art to sell. The first time we took her art there she was very nervous and was having some difficult behaviors I kept trying to calm her with very little success. Then Tucker asked Emily to take her artwork out of the bag and tell her about the pieces. This helped Emily to relax .when Emily was done showing the pieces,Tucker put some on a table in the gallery. Emily was thrilled! Tucker then asked her if she wanted to sit down and do some art with the class that ws there at the time. She sat down and immediatly felt comfortable and started an art project. We have been going there every week for a few months now and Emily loves it there. This a great stride for her to be able to be with the other artists and work next to them and be social. She has vaery few social skills and this gallery to us was a Godsend!! of Freindship gallery in Ephrata

Our special needs son, Keith, has been a part of activities at Friendship Community for almost two decades and a participant at the Gallery since it opened its doors two years ago. We have observed that the classes he takes there are essential to his good mental and physical health. Art class nights are the highlight of his week. There he is drawn into a world of creativity with shapes, forms, colors and beauty. He is encouraged to design and construct and express himself in ways that we could never have imagined. What’s more, his work is praised and celebrated by the director and the team of excellent assistants that surround her.

The director of the Gallery has made all the difference in this program. As the most intricate of methodologies predictably falls short of success in the hands of a poor teacher, a common sense methodology combined with expertise and a love for students yields incredible results in the hands of a great teacher. And so students of all ages and abilities have thrived under the directorship of Tucker Yeaworth, Director of the Heart of Friendship Art Gallery. She is one of those “can do” people who continually brings about the best in each of her students. The gallery walls hung full of student creations are only part of the story. She ministers to the souls of our special needs individuals by helping them to believe in themselves, by lifting their self-esteem, in calming their anxieties and giving the work of their hands merit and worth.

My connection with the heART of Friendship program involves being a contributing artist as well as serving as a volunteer on the Art Committee and at the Ephrata Gallery. My interest in art has been a life-long, if not an on-going process. Work and family pretty much kept the art bug dormant during the middle years of my life. My connection with Friendship is rooted in my son, Tom, who has been part of their splendid program for over 20 years. He is currently a resident at the Manheim home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. My involvement at the Ephrata Gallery is covering one or two retail shifts as needed. My last experience was back in December of 2009. The heART of Friendship program, including both the benefit auction and the gallery, has directly and indirectly been responsible for stimulating this latent artistic potential referred to above. The gallery and auction became part of my life about the time of my retirement and these were the activities I needed to stimulate and fertilize my slumbering friend. I’ve been fairly prolific since then and look forward to having my first show next June. This opportunity is the direct result of my involvement in the art auction. Thanks heART of Friendship.

The heART of Friendship Gallery has proven to be an asset to me as an artist. I am pleased to have sold many pieces of original paintings, prints and notecards. Paying the rent each month is not a problem since I know the gallery is there to benefit those with special needs. I have recently heard positive comments from someone who has shopped at the gallery. I was touched when one lady purchased 2 framed paintings created by Friendship artists to hang in her newly painted hallway. Her desire was to support those who need extra help. I consider it a service to be able to put in my volunteer hours each month. Also I am happy to donate a painting or print each year for the art auction which is not only beneficial for the gallery but a fun evening as well.
