Friends of Saguaro National Park has done an outstanding job of working with the park to identify and fund important studies and programs that would otherwise not be possible.

I have been astounded and inspired by the support that the FOSNP provides the park. From tireless fundraising, to timely cheerleading, and providing creative solutions for administrative issues, the FOSNP are incredible advocates for park resources, programs and staff. I am honored to work with them, and for the park!

FOSNP plays a crucial role in fund-raising and advocating for the park. Many of the park's most interesting programs and projects would not be possible without their support.

As a park ranger and environmental education specialist at Saguaro National Park I have worked closely with the Friends of Saguaro National Park for a number of years and can testify that without their passion, commitment, and charitable support, thousands of young people from Tucson would not have had the opportunity to explore the wilds of Saguaro Natioanal Park and to make thier own personal connection to nature. Executive Director Bob Newtson and his team of "Friends" clearly understands the mission of the park, shares our goals and objectives, and works closely with us to provide fantastic opportunities for the youth of Tucson to explore their backyard National Park. The Friends of Saguaro National Park are an outstanding park partner!

As a direct recipient of the effort and support of the Friends of Saguaro National Park I find their contributions, responsiveness, and commitment to supporting education and tomorrow's park stewards to be essential to the programs we offer. Without their support opportunities for urban youth and their families to connect to the park would be drastically reduced. Managing the Environmental Education Program at the park allows me the opportunity to see first hand the impact and impressions made upon the thousands of children who are able to visit the park each year. These visits allow them to make a deep personal connection to this incredible resource and to expand their horizons. I can say unequivocally that over the last 17 years, the Friends of Saguaro National Park has grown holistically as a supportive non-profit organization and that directly through their efforts, the park has significantly increased quality programing and outreach efforts, assisting the park in reaching tens of thousands of children that would otherwise never had the opportunity to personally experience one of America's greatest wonders. It is my honor to work directly with such an incredible group of people as are the "Friends".

I have worked with many Friends groups in my long career in state and national parks, but I've never worked with a group like the Friends of Saguaro National Park. They are incredibly dedicated and effective. They not only raise funds, but they do so in a way that is strategic and innovative. They are instrumental in creating a connection between this park and the community. The Friends create a spirit of partnership and place that would not exist if the Friends did not exist. I wish every state and national park in America had friends like the Friends of Saguaro National Park!

The Friends do so many things to benefit Saguaro National Park. As an employee of the park, I have seen first-hand how important these contributions are. Among these are the support for education programs for Tucson kids, bringing them out into the desert and teaching them to appreciate it; the support for important improvements to the park, such as trails and interpretive opportunities; and being involved with research and Citizen Science opportunities. I worked on the Saguaro Census this year and this effort, which involved literally hundreds of volunteers, would have not been possible without the Friends.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

...seeing some of the on-the-ground results in the park, such as educational programs and the Saguaro Census.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

...find someone who has that 10 million bucks! More seriously, I would start an outreach program to bring lots of young members into the Friends.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

...meeting members of the organization and the Board, and also Bob Newtson, all of whom are so dedicated and really care about the park.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

...involved with the organization because they think the work is important.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

...help the park even more, especially with some of the long-term, difficult problems like buffelgrass, which threatens the saguaro...provide more facilities and opportunities for visitors to enjoy the park...bring more young people into the wilderness.

Ways to make it better...

I have been involved with other "Friends of" groups as a member, volunteer, etc. and the Friends of Saguaro is head and shoulders above all these other groups.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

...the need for a higher profile in a city that has lots of other organizations and needs.

One thing I'd also say is that...

...Keep up the great work!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

SImply put, Saguaro National Park relies heavily on the FRIENDS for support, and the park could not do its work to protect our resources and serve our visitors without their help. The FRIENDS have provided funding and support for many different projects and purposes, including critical plant and animal research, environmental education, support of our volunteers, and visitor improvements such as new Visitor Center exhibits. The Board and its members are passionately dedicated to protecting the park and its resources, and promoting the physical, social, and mental importance of national parks to our locals and visitors alike.

THANK YOU, FRIENDS!

I always appreciate what Friends of Saguaro National Park do whenever I visit the Saguaro National Park. Their caring and stewardship shows and without it the park would not be the asset it is. As we all have seen nationwide the increased use of National Parks and the decrease in funding by Congress necessitates that organizations step in to maintain these parks. Friends of Saguaro National Park are this guardian to this beautiful park.

As a full-time employee of the National Park Service who has the privilege of working at Saguaro National Park, I am continually amazed by the energy and imagination shown by the people at Friends of Saguaro National Park, Inc. As is the case with our volunteers, the work that Friends of Saguaro does is absolutely crucial to our success. In the face of continuing urban encroachment and the threat of losing more plant and animal species within our park, the role that this organization plays at Saguaro National Park will become all the more important. Please take the time to support this fine organization.

As an environmental education professional working at Saguaro National Park I want to commend the Friends of saguaro on their efforts to provide transportation to under-served school groups to attend field trips at the park. For many of these students this will be there first experience of a national park, a vital part of America's heritage (after all we only have 59 of them in the whole country.) For others it is their first visit to a desert environment, despite the fact that they live in a city surrounded by desert. The value of these experiences may not be apparent immediately, but we know from personal experience that some of those students will be the protectors of these special places in the future. For every "thank you" note from a fourth grader that I get, I send a double "thanks" to the Friends of saguaro National Park.

FOSNP is an amazing partner with Saguaro National Park. We easily and regularly collaborate on large and small projects. We could not do the work we do with out their help.
