I did a lot of research before deciding to adopt. Friends of Homeless animals was my choice of organization to adopt through and I couldnt be happier with my decision. In 2008, I adopted Meris, a sweet little Chihuahua. The rescue group is kind, helpful and very much like a loving family when it comes to the rescue and adoption process. In 2009, I adopted Daphne, an adorable little rat terrier. I talked in great detail with the foster moms of both these dogs before adopting them. Both foster moms were very honest, completely helpful with telling me everything and anything they knew about the dog, which allowed me to make my decision. Adopting these 2 great dogs was the best decision I could have every made. This is a wonderful rescue group. I recommend them to all my friends who are looking to adopt. I will definately count on them, in the future if I am looking to adopt again.

I have been a volunteer with FOHA for almost 3 yrs. now and probably fostered around 30 dogs and puppies as well that would have been euthanized. It is a wonderful group of people who always put the animals first and work together as a whole for the good of our dogs. These dogs are mostly death row dogs that would suffer a horrible death by gas. When I look at the many we have saved and are in loving homes now I am overjoyed. Roie takes on the sick, injured, and dogs that no one else would give a chance at a good life. She makes sure they get that chance through FOHA.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Nothing, we all work well together

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I have learned so much about caring for the sick and injured, and taking care of puppies. I have met so many new people that I now call friends. i stay in touch with about 90% of the wonderful people who have chosen my fosters to adopt.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

I feel as I am doing a good thing. Every time a foster gets adopted it makes room for one more to be saved.

What a difference we can make!!! However, like other groups, we depend upon the charity of others for ultimate success!! Each volunteer selflessly houses "disposable dogs" and cares for them until they are adopted. With the rise of commerical breeding facilities, the expense of vetting an animal, and the economy, our demand has been increasing at a rate that we cannot keep up with. Any available funds would increase our chances of future participation in this worthwhile organization!!

I have been involved with this rescue for about 3yrs now. I am very proud to say I am a member of their volunteers. Under the leadership of Roie Griego and Doris Baker this group has continued to grow and help 100's of dogs by rescuing them from euthanasia and finding them forever homes.

We are one of the largest rescues in the NE and continue to get recommendations from other rescues on a daily basis. Whenever a shelter or rescue needs help, they call on us. In this economic time, when quite a few of the shelters are closing, we continue to be a strong group. We continue our work with our mission to help 'All dogs who need help'.

My daily life. I foster dogs for this group and also help with their website issues.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help to bring more fosters into the fold to help us foster more dogs. We are recruiting daily but it seems the volunteers have fallen in numbers.

There is nothing I would change.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I have learned so much more about rescuing under the leadership of Roie Griego. She has extensive knowledge and experience in rescuing dogs. It has helped me learn quite a lot to help me in other areas of my life.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

I feel very gratified I am able to give back to my community.

I have fostered dogs for this organization and have found the organization to be very responsible, responsive and caring. All dogs are given everything they need in order to be healthy and well cared for until they can find a home of their own.

I have personally experienced this organization spending money whenever necessary to provide all the medical care a dog needs despite the costs.

I am not aware of any changes that should be made.
