The Fresno Bully Rescue is an awesome, and desperately needed, save haven for pitties in the Central Valley. They are run completely on donations and volunteer efforts. They are constantly coming up with fun and creative fund raisers and have a huge following.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
They were able to take in a dog that we found left at a foreclosed home with no food or water, thin, covered in fleas and ticks. They went and rescued him right after we called. It was very fortunate because they don't' normally have an open space as they always have a waiting list due to the overpopulation problem created by back yard breeders in the area. They take very good care of the dogs and make certain they go to great homes.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
give them unlimited funds to help more pitties. The only thing holding them back is their budget. The more volunteers and funds being donated the more lives they can save.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?
They do a great job recruiting volunteers but maybe to help them stay connected they could do a volunteer newsletter or a Facebook group specifically for volunteers? They do a great job already!
Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)
Absolutely. FBR was the first rescue I was involved with and it taught me sooo much! They know the breed inside and out, have great media contacts, trainers and a very dedicated staff that I have become very close with over the past few years. The impact they have on the pitties they take in is just amazing.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
It feels great helping to save lives and find homes for pitties. Educating the public is a priority of theirs and probably one of the biggest challenges due to all of the negative stereotypes about the breed.

This organization has gone from a nice little rescue to a hoarding mess to a now marvelous place I wish I could spend more time at. The dogs have never seen so much love and compassion and genuine care and concern for their well belling then they do now. By the smiles on the dogs faces you would never guess some of their horrific stories. The place has really shaped up and stepped up to what a great non-profit animal rescue should be. This place really does take a place in your heart and sometimes even your home ;)

the atmosphere. The dogs are happy, the place is clean, the people are great to be around. Not only a sanctuary for dogs, but a great escape for anyone :)

have a permanent place to call home, and funds to promote spay/neuter/vaccination of pitbulls in the community for free! :)

I used to volunteer at FBR all the time. Any free moment I had, I was there. Unfortunately it was because I was sick to my stomach over the care that was being given. Filthy kennels, filthy house, dogs piled into small kennels and tucked into corners laying in there own feces for days. Puppies in a garage with no sunlight, air flow or attention, left to fight over the little amount of food given. I was afraid that if I wasnt there to help who knows what these bullies would have to endure. It was my personal mission to let these dogs know that I cared for their well being if no one else did. But then December 2009 came along. New faces, fresh ideas and a rearranged Board of Directors. Everything started to turn around. Goals were set to improve the living conditions of both the dogs and the live in caretakers, meetings were scheduled to flesh out fundraising ideas, past volunteers were coming out of the woodwork to join the "New FBR". I know every dollar I give them went straight to the dogs because I saw it. I cannot believe the passion of the strangers, now friends, that have stepped up to take control and turn this ship around. The atmosphere is filled with love and laughter and pride and the looks on the bullies faces prove it. I still spend all my free time at FBR but not because it is a filthy hoarding situation but because it is the best time I have with my "bully family". Thank God for the volunteers, caretakers and most importantly the current Board members for giving so much of yourselves, you have no idea the impact you have made on the community, in my life and those innocent bullies.

I recently became involved in the Fresno Bully Rescue and I can tell you that each and every board member and volunteer truly cares and loves these dogs. They actively make sure each dog is properly exercised, trained, and given affection on a daily basis. The kennels are always clean and the dogs are well taken care of. The dogs are properly evaluated to go to the right home so they can have a family. It is amazing the time and dedication each member displays and it shows in the dogs.

I have recently started volunteering @ Fresno Bully Rescue and cannot believe the dedication and love everyone at the center has for the dogs. The center is extremely clean and well managed. The dogs are happy and are thriving even though in a kennel environment. I really commend all who do what they do to make this rescue organization what it is.

WONDERFUL!!!!! So much fun and so fulfilling. My husband and I LOVE the bullies. We have two of our own and wanted to give some love and walks to some of the "kids" that really needed the time to stretch their legs. The folks that do this very time consuming labor of love are truly angels! We really enjoyed speaking with them almost as much as walking the dogs. The orchards surrounding the property are truly beautiful and to enjoy a nice long walk with a bully....hmmmm, heaven!
