Our all volunteer organization supports the community of Canon City, surrounding populations that encompasses Fremont County in Southern Colorado. Our relief features include high desert, the Arkansas River, and mountainous areas - all providing challenges to our team as we are called out on search, rescue or recovery operations during all weather situations.
Currently, we are in need of reliable vehicles so that we may serve the community without using our personal means of transport. We are hoping to secure two 4x4 trucks w/ crew cab, winch, hitch and storage boxes in the bed for missions we feel are critical to assisting those persons in need.
This year alone, our small team has responded to 18 missions - taking time out of our personal lives to assist others - from swift water to high angle rappelling, to the search of a 2-year old boy. For more information about who we are and what we do, please visit our website at www.fremontsar.com

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the past 4 years. I have seen dedication and frustration. I have seen happiness and tears. The FSAR team consist of members whose sole purpose is to assist others in need without any compensation what-so-ever.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Support the need for updated communication systems and assist with the purchase of two reliable search vehicles so we could better serve the community.

More feedback...

Would you volunteer for this group again?

Definitely

For the time you spent, how much of an impact did you feel your work or activity had?

Life-changing

Did the organization use your time wisely?

Quite well

Would you recommend this group to a friend?

Definitely

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

reliable vehicles for the express purpose of accomplishing mission in a timely manner. Currently, many volunteer members are forced to drive their own private vehicles - many which are not 4-wheel drive - to remote or rugged areas to participate in searches. A large capacity truck with stored gear would bring many members to a command site at once.

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I have made several new and lasting friendships. We have also attended and conducted several trainings for possible missions - many which were similar to rescues we were a part of in the future.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

A warm heart for some. Closure for others.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2011
