My husband and I have looked into groups against smoking, and we can say with some authority the Foundation for a Smokefree America is one of the best groups in the US fighting tobacco. Their programs keep youth from getting addicted, and empower thousands of smokers to quit successfully. They have a tremendous web presence thanks in part to a major in-kind grant of $40,000 per month in free advertising on Google.

Because of this they have a great platform to educate the public about numerous tobacco issues; they are best known for their national campaign for teen smoking prevention. Every major search engine ranks Smokefree America among its top three results for "anti-smoking", "anti-tobacco" and related search phrases.

Executive Director Patrick Reynolds apprears regularly on Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, Al Jazeera and other networks, whenever tobacco stories are on the wires. We found a url at the group's site with his news coverage -- www.Anti-smoking.org/news/ Mr. Reynolds is a frequent speaker to community groups, universities and middle and high schools in the US; they are now focusing on a new international campaign.

This group also offers an acclaimed educational video, "The Truth About Tobacco, 2011 Edition," now in over 10,000 schools, health departments and libraries. We watched some clips from it at www.tobaccofree.org/clips/

The org is a tax-exempt, public 501c3 foundation, and my husband and I will continue to give all we can to support their programs and mission. We know this group, and they are really making a difference in this fight.

We are hoping to spearhead Smokefree America's endowment and capital campaign, and we hope you will join us.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I saw Patrick Reynolds speak at a university near here a few years ago, and his talk motivated me to become more involved in this fight. My mother died from smoking when I was 25, and I have always cared about the problem of tobacco use.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I'd like this group to devote greater resources to their capital campaign to raise an endowment. This will empower them to focus on this good work in the decades to come.

I have attended the presentation that Patrick did for students at Granbury High School in Granbury, Texas.
This was a very impressive presentation and had the attention of all students.
What I remember the most was the participation of the students.

I would like to see this organization eligible for grant money. What it does for these kids is priceless. The organization is run professionally and has so much potential beyond what it has already accomplished.

I am a member of the public but know of this organization due to related non-profit/NGO activities. I highly respect the work it has done over the years in seveal countries at the highest level (with governments) and at grass roots level (with schools). It is of worthy note that its founder, Mr Patrick Reynolds is from the same family as the Tobacco conglomerate. I recommend you read his story of why, many years ago, he disposed of substantial stock and opened this very worthy cause.

If we could identify a murderer who killed for profit, who also crept into homes where the poorest families lived and stole money, who got paid and became very rich for hurting and killing millions of people, we would surely do something about that murderer, wouldn't we?

The truth is,
our government knows all about this murderer and, because of money the murderer gives politicians, our government largely ignores the mayhem caused by this particular murderer.

That murderer is cigarettes.

The Foundation for a Smokefree America takes a stand for my right to enjoy freedom from other people's cigarette smoke in places where I wish to enjoy the simple act of breathing, and for that I thank Patrick Reynolds and his group for doing a great job. They have raised awareness, educated children, and even helped get legislation passed to fight the scourge of tobacco addiction and the taking of innocent victims through second-hand smoke.

This is a nonprofit that truly makes a difference.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have enjoyed smoke free restaurants and other businesses in my home town of Ft Worth, Texas since the city banned smoking in such places. The Foundation had an impact in the groundswell of public opinion leading to this legislation.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would be even more adamant about legislation needed to help innocent victims, particularly children exposed to cigarette smoke in automobiles. It should be felony child abuse to smoke in an enclosed area with little kids.

Being from the preeminent tobacco family in the world, Patrick Reynolds could have chosen to inherit a family fortune and keep quiet about the dangers of tobacco use. But he did not do this. Fueled by an unshakeable integrity Mr. Reynolds reaches out to our next generation and shares his personal story of losing his father and brother to death as a result of cigarette smoking.

Imagine a member of the KROC family (McDonald's) speaking out against the horribly ill effects of fast food on the body or a Rockefeller (Standard Oil, Exxon Mobile, Chevron) crusading to get us off fossil fuels. This kind of public honesty is lacking in our world today.

I have heard Mr. Reynold's speak. I have met this man. I truly believe that with the proper financial support of good people like us that we can get him in front of as many of our youth as possible. Imagine a young boy or girl sitting in an auditorium and experiencing this man's story. Patrick Reynolds and the Foundation for a Smokefree America will make the kind of impact that can shift a generation.

The Great!

Watching the impact of Mr. Reynold's story when people hear it for the first time.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Free up Mr. Reynold's from the daily task of fundraising so he can speak to as many people as possible.

I went home on August 28, 2011 for a family reunion, and to visit my 80 year old invalid mother. My mother has been suffering from the effects of two strokes. She is so disabled and needs assistance for all of her needs. She is a very strong and proud woman, and feeds herself when she is home with family members, but often drops food to her tray. She will not eat in public. My mother is so fortune that she has a woman that is exactly my age, and who is the caregiver for my mother during the day, while my sister works out of her house. The caregiver is a real angel. My mother loves her and she loves my mother. The problem, I noticed that my mother has an awful cough. I could not figure out why at first, because she is kept in a warm room and is well care for. Before long, I noticed that my sister and her husband chains smoke constantly in the house. My mother has been enduring the awful second hand smoke for 7 years. Thanks to Patrick Reynolds nonprofit at www.Anti-smoking.org, I was able to send information to my sister about how terrible smoking was for herself, and her my invalid mother. My mother is held hostage to the horrible effects of smoke at a time when she needs the most healthy of environments.
I am stunned that someone born after 1960 or even before, do not
believe that smoking causes terrible diseases, ages you, shortens your life (and the life of those subjected to your smoke via 2nd hand), and kills the smoker and the person exposed.

I am ashame of my sister for being so weak and uncaring about the effects of tobacco smoke on small children and the elderly especially. Before I found out about her addiction to cigarettes, I was proud of the way she helped care for our mother.

Thank you Mr. Reynolds for your untiring effort to educate the public about the harmful effects of tobacco.

I have followed Mr. Patrick Reynolds work for years, and know that he makes a difference in the life of young people. His tireless effort in speaking at secondary schools around the country has prevented many young people from beginning the awful habit of cigarette addiction.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would have all companies, large and small offer Mr. Reynolds organization to their annual giving campaigns. I would encourage people who have successfully kicked the habit to write testamonials on how they over came addiction. We truly need "A smokefree society". Mr. Reynolds organization at www.Anti-smoking.org has saved thousands of lives. He is an American Hero.

I have known Patrick Reynolds for over 20 years and in my experience, he has been the strongest, most vocal and, because of his background, credible advocate there is for a tobacco-free America. Patrick is also an extremely informed and articulate speaker which when combined with his passion for the cause, makes him almost uniquely well-suited for his position, which his track record of past accomplishments certainly affirms.

I have known Patrick since "1993" thru mutual friends and the thing that I always admired about Patrick is his Integrity about the role and responsibilty of the Tobacco Industry in promoting their product to minors. For a guy who was a Jetset teen and young adult, it took a great amount of character & courage to sacrifice the things (money) that are associated with being an heir of a wealthy organization (i.e. keeping your mouth shut) you have issue with.

When I think about all the people i know who either smoke or have smoked, all have always admitted of the known harm they subjected themselves too.

Patrick has made a huge difference in sharing his knowledge of the Tobacco Industries message, and taking a stand to inform young people and older alike what they are exposing themselves too.

I have always appauded him for who he is!!!!!

In the mid 1980's more than one in four Californians smoked cigarettes. Today in 2011 it is dropped to one in ten. The Foundation for a Smoke Free America helped spearhead this effort, increasing productivity in the workplace while helping to keep a tab on runaway health insurance costs - saving billions. What is even more attractive is the increasingly "global face" this organization is projecting into areas like the European Union and the Middle East where 29%+ of people still smoke cigarettes. It's all about education, and in this organization's case, giving it the expanded capacity to act on a more global scale.

The Great!

I would give them more help. Patrick Reynolds has, so far, been a virtual "one man band" in this organization's war on cigarettes.
