Address:

PO Box 1777 Marco Island FL 34146 USA

Mission:

Our mission is to end the cruelty of pet overpopulation by rescuing abandoned cats and kittens and sterilizing the feral and stray cat population in the community.

Results:

TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) for Community (Feral) Cats TNR is one of For the Love of Cat’s key directives. The community issues of cat overpopulation cannot be achieved through the adoption process. It must be accomplished through sterilization of the existing community cat population. In addition to sterilizing, the cats are vaccinated and under the daily feeding and care of volunteer caregivers. For the Love of Cats works with Domestic Animal Services in Collier County to adhere to the TNR ordinance currently in place. To date, For the Love of Cats has TNR’d over 5000 cats. Caregivers feed over 300 cats on Marco Island every day. Rescue of Abandoned House Cats and Kittens Abandoned pets are a major contributing factor to the increase in community cats throughout Collier County. For the Love of Cats has rescued almost 300 abandoned house cats in the immediate area over the last 4 years. Kittens are a by-product of the community cat colonies. Rescued early, they can be domesticated and adopted into loving homes. We have rescued and adopted over 3000 kittens since 2002 and continue to rescue kittens that are the offspring of abandoned house cats in our community (we rescue the mom cat as well). We no longer have kittens from the community cat colonies because we have fixed and vaccinated all of the free roaming unadoptable cats in the community to our knowledge. Spay/Neuter for Cats of Low Income Families Our Low Income Spay/Neuter program pays for sterilization surgery for cats and kittens owned by families that would otherwise abandon them without this service. Our program is designed to help families keep their pets with the benefit of reducing abandonment and thereby also reducing the number of cats and kittens that add to the existing community cat population. Every year, we help over 75 cats and kittens to keep their home. Emergency Veterinary Services for Low Income Families Many low income families have pets that need urgent veterinary attention and would be forced to allow their pet to suffer or be euthanized without this program. Last year alone, we paid for 3 dental extractions, 3 knee surgeries, 2 cats with severe whole body infections, 1 cancerous eye removal, 1 crushed tail surgery and 2 broken leg surgeries. Each of these emergencies was over $1000 each. Seniors for Seniors Adoption Program Older cats languish in shelters for years and most do not get adopted or worse, they are euthanized to make room for younger animals. Senior citizens are often living alone and depression is a major concern. This program includes cats from all rescue groups in Collier county. Cats over 5 years old may be adopted by a senior citizen over the age of 55 at no cost to the adopter. The adoption fee along with a complete care kit for the cat is provided by For the Love of Cats. This program has been a very successful one with over 100 senior cats adopted since 2010.

Target demographics:

My LeMew went missing, and I discovered a hole in the corner of the screen. My worst fears were realized. I have loved her since she poked her little head out of the Marco Marriott spa bushes, and insisted I take her home 4 years ago.
At that time, For the Love of Cats helped me get her a medical checkup and check her for a chip.
So when she was gone, I knew who to call. Jim Rich returned my call and was so thorough in his explanation on what to do. He said I should look for her in the bushes right near where she jumped out. He said cats immediately camouflage themselves and calling her wouldn't work. He recommended I put food, water, and a familiar item out on the ground near the hole. He recommended I take a flashlight out at dusk and get down on the ground and look in the bushes. If I didn't find her, he said he would come out and set a trap.
I am happy to report we didn't have to set a trap. Mew is home safe and happy.
For the Love of Cats can also read microchips in cats and help change the information to the new owner. Jim Rich really helped me to have hope that I would see her again by being detailed in his advice. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

For The Love of Cats is an absolutely wonderful rescue group! I am so glad we have them in our community and I cannot praise the organization and Jim and Jan Rich enough! They have helped me numerous times over the years with multiple feral cats, getting them fixed, and also with vet bills when they were injured or sick. In fact, just today they helped me with a very sweet stray cat who had a lump that turned out to be an abscess. I truly feel blessed knowing that I could call them at any time and they would always help me with the cats! I thank them from the bottom of my heart for all their help!

Hi! We are the Tougas Family and we've just completed two kitten adoptions with Jim and Jan. We not only found beautiful, healthy kittens in an extremely clean facility but also found dedicated, knowledge and caring caregivers for all the cats. We would highly recommend For the Love of Cats for anyone interested in finding a forever friend!

Amazing group of caring dedicated animal lovers who direct every dime into the program. It's wonderful to know that a $ 50 donation can do so much to rescue and raise our kitties that don't have their forever homes yet. I wish every city and town, and homeless kitty had a group like this.

Thank you!

The dedication, compassion and understanding Jan and Jim Rich show for the plight of homeless cats in Southwest Florida is unprecedented. They leave no stone unturned in their efforts to rescue abandoned cats, provide medical and supportive care for the sick, and find appropriate and loving adoptive homes for those they shelter. The loving care provided by their volunteers literally transforms once fearful strays, enabling them to go on to enjoy long lives as loving companions to their adopters. They also provide TNR services to support local feral colonies and assist area families in need so they can keep and care for their family pets. For the Love of Cats is truly a blessing to the community it serves.

For the Love of Cats is providing a wonderful service to our island and the surrounding community. Six years ago, we adopted our two wonderful cats, Martini and Gimlet ( a feral baby) from them. They have converted a three car garage in their home into a first-rate immaculate facility for abandoned, injured and feral cats. All cats are neutered and spayed in cooperation with a local vet. The adult ferals are released back into the community, near where they were found, while the babies are adopted out. Additionally, the released ferals are monitored to be sure that they remain healthy and fed. The time and dedication they provide for the care and well being of these animals is inspiring, invaluable and unbelievably admirable!
