Flying Kites is an incredible organization with a big vision. They are making it a reality one child at a time. It is impressive what the group has already accomplished considering its youth. The children living at the Kinangop childrens center are thriving and happy. The organization hopes to expand and help more of Kenya's youth fulfill the needs they require to become productive citizens.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the pictures and videos of the children looking healthy and happy. The evident financial stability to afford housing for interns and a beautiful office space.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to learn from my mistakes without feeling defensive about having made them

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

learning about the various needs which a new nonprofit must attend to and obstacles which must be overcome

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very energetic and committed

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide housing, education and health care for hundreds of orphaned and needy children.

Ways to make it better...

I was given a more thorough introduction to the founders and history as well as felt more incorporated into the team.

I spent the last 4 months volunteering at Flying Kites Kinangop Children's Center and teaching first grade at their on-site school. Living at Flying Kites was an experience of a lifetime. Flying Kites is an exceptional organization with a strong commitment to providing their children with remarkable care and a first-class education. I was very impressed how well-run the center is. The 16 children are cared for by 3 adoring matrons, 4 full time teachers, and various founders and volunteers. They children are happy, healthy, and well taken care of. It would be a privilege for any one to have the opportunity to visit and volunteer with Flying Kites in Kenya.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the joy of the children and their growth in health and education.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being able to help and contribute via my time spent in Kenya and in newport.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build a community center, a volunteer center, 6 family houses for the children, a new school, a school van, a center vehicle, the list is endless...

Flying Kites is an innovative, passionate organization with an excellent organizational structure and a lot of promise. The goals and ideals of FK really resonate with me in that the intention is to give their children the kind of care and education you would hope to give your own children. Very few children's homes in the world really try to give their children the kind of community and support that kids really need to grow and develop. The issues with this organization are just that it's difficult for a start-up organization to develop a donor base and a reliable board of directors, so the early years are shaky in terms of sustainable professional support. However, this is only the beginning, and I believe that Flying Kites Global has the capacity and intellect to succeed without a doubt.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

. . .that the founders are completely involved, 100%, and unbelievably approachable, and that I could see the impact on each individual child.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

. . .amazing, brilliant, innovative & compassionate.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

. . .change the lives and the futures of hundreds and hundreds of children. It could build a better, larger school, extend the community programs, and support many children and families in Kenya.

Ways to make it better...

. . .the board members and professionals who support FK were more often available for questions and were more involved.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

. . .the economic recession and the board.

Flying Kites truly stands apart from most other organizations serving orphaned youth overseas because its comprehensive three part model- exemplary care, community strengthening, and cooperation & collaboration- provides a strategy for combating so many facets of the challenges orphaned children in the developing world(and the non-profits that serve them)face. Also, I think the fact that Flying Kites' vision focuses on the root causes of poverty with the aim of breaking the cycle, rather than just putting a band aid on the problem, is an incredible strength of this organization. Flying Kites is still in the nascent stages of its lifespan, but every move the founders have made has been well-thought out and carefully planned which gives me great confidence that the organization will blossom and achieve its full potential in due time. Lastly, Flying Kites stands out in the way they allow the public to engage with their children. Even on the website there are individual bios of the children with their likes and dislikes- To me, this shows me that the organization values each and every one of them as precious individuals.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

how happy, healthy and secure the children have become since Flying Kites took them in. Also, the children's English skills have improved remarkably.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

How wonderful the founders and fellow staff members at Flying Kites are. Being around so many brilliant, socially-conscious people is an enriching and gratifying experience.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

young, intelligent, and dedicated with the biggest hearts imaginable.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

immediately change the lives of orphans around the world. In the long term it would produce well-rounded and well-educated individuals who would have all the tools they need to become leaders of their countries.

Flying Kites is a fabulous organization run by some seriously dedicated people. They've pulled together resources from all over to provide for these kids, and their future plans are even more impressive. If they manage to pull off everything they're aiming for, they'll be unstoppable. It remains to be seen whether and where the funding will come from!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Taking care of incredible kids, housing, feeding, and schooling them when they had nowhere to go.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

intensely motivated and dedicated to their work

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Further develop the pilot site in Kenya and expand the model of exemplary care into other developing countries.
