Having been a volunteer and board member of FISP for almost ten years it is a pleasure to share my thoughts and feelings about this wonderful organization. I will always remember the moment I was asked to become a board member. My eyes opened WIDE and I exclaimed, "Really?" My excitement stemmed from my highest regard for Jackie and Harry Rosen, the Principals of FISP. I could not easily grasp how they had overcome their sadness and grief in order to help others. That, in fact, is what Jackie and Harry are about: Helping Others.
And do they ever! Jackie will put in an 80 hour week and at the end quietly wonder, "Why am I so tired?" I don't know anyone quite like her, for not only does she put in the time, she possesses a disposition of empathy, kindness and understanding. Harry is the "Wind beneath our Wings." We look to him for "the word" for we all have tremendous respect for his knowledge and ability to "Talk softly...but carry a big stick" - Roosevelt. Harry can take two opposing sides and have them see each other's point in no time. Together Jackie and Harry Rosen are a win/win team! And I feel such pride to be on their team. It is an honor.

Although I have not needed FISP as a support in dealing with personal family suicide issues, I have experienced the LOVE fostered by this unusual group of individuals. I have served on a minimum of eight other organizations and never have I experienced the unity, grace, comraderie and spirit of FISP. It is a pleasure to witness and a bigger joy to work with.

If I had to make changes to this organization, the only change that comes to mind is that FISP would be granted more access to funds to further their wonderful programs for people of all ages, all races, all denominations. FISP is a peaceful organization dedicated to helping people without discrimination.

Speaking from the perspective as the founding executive director of FISP, Jackie Rosen has continued to develop FISP and provided the leadership in suicide prevention that is needed in Florida. She has always been a committed volunteer, board member and now executive director, and has brought success to the mission of this very special non-profit organization.

As a survivor who lost her sister, I understand the support needed in our community for this devastating outcome.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Expand the SUN program spearheaded by FISP EVERYWHERE.

I have known Jackie & Harry Rosen over twenty years and have worked with them on may projects; but, none as important as saving lives.
Jackie & Harry are very special people - always putting others and their problems first. They are a unique team and the heart and soul of FISP.
Jackie
works endless hours with only one goal in mind - to try to save a life. There are many stories I could tell about how they have personally helped me with my own family.
The future of FISP must be preserved. That is why I will always Fund Raise and be a part of FISP.

My son took his own life. My husband and I needed to find a place where others might be able to understand our pain, where we wouldn't hear banalities such as "he's in a better place" or "it's time to get on with your lives." We needed a place that was nonsectarian and where we could feel free to speak without fear of judgement. I was shocked that the group was so small. The intimacy of such a small group has helped us tremendously.

We are moving through the stages of grief...not always quickly and not always in a forward direction. But we know that support is just a call or few days away.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have the meetings start later so that I don't need to take vacation time each time I attend a meeting.

I called the Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention after a family member took his life and our family needed help. I live in another part of the state and needed referrals for groups and other resources. FISP made contact with and provided such compassion and support for my family. I will be forever grateful.
