FAPHN (Florida Association of Public Health Nurses) is a great organization, spreading the word on the importance of public health to improving the health of the citizens of Florida. Its members all share a common interest in public/community health and believe in its' value and necessity. In a time when funds are being cut it is vital that those concerned with the public sector of health care work together to ensure its survival.
This icharity has established itself as organization which promotes nursing and an advocate for all the "little People" often forgotten in the health care system. It helps nurses pursue advanced education, trains existing nurses with the goal of helping them improve their practice.
This organization promotes public health nursing and the benefits to the public from the services that they offer. They put their money where it counts--educating nurses both in undergraduate and post graduate education. Public health as a speciality in nursing is little understood. The passion and committment of this organization does much tto educate the public and others as to what we would be without this group. My experience is first hand as a former board member and current president-elect. Even tough I have retired,I am committed to continuing the fire and passion of this organization which can be found no where else in Florida.
I have been a member of this organization since its inception and am proud to be a Board member. It is a great resource for education for nurses and has presented several conferences with current and valuable information for nurses working in the community. The information presented online and at conferences is valuable for public health nurses and others interested in the health needs of the public.
FAPHN is a great organization dedicated to furthering Public Health Nursing. It has provided a forum to recognize excellence in public health nursing practice. Although it if funded totally by the membership, through excellent financial foresight it has been able to provide scholarship assistance and mini grants to enable nurses to provide programs.
This association is for nurses who work in public health currently or have an interest in public health. The association publishes quarterly newsletters that keeps the members up to date on issues. The annual conference had excellent presenters and provided the nurses with continuing education credits. Scholarships have been provided to nurses to support advanced nursing education and Mini-Grants have been given for projects that have helped to enhance programs within many Florida communities. The all volunteer Board works diligently to improve status and standing of Public Health Nurses.
The Florida Association of Public Health Nurses (FAPHN) was founded in 2002 by nurses in Florida with an interest in serving families and communities through agencies providing public health services. FAPHN supports the professional nurse by offering individuals scholarship opportunities for advanced degrees in the nursing field. Grant funds are also available for nurses in organizations providing a public health service to their communities. FAPHN also provides conferences and seminars for continuing educational credits in various locations around the state.
The FAPHN organization has had for it's mission the focus of advancing public health nursing. Public health nursing has a long and rich history and the citizens and visitors of our state benefit from what we do! I have been a Board member for several years and served as President for one year. What a great experience and opportunity to meet colleagues not only in nursing but in other areas that support public health. I have liked the disaster preparedness and response and the maternal child health side of public health. Young nurses who choose this path would be greatly rewarded in satisfaction of doing a "greater good".
Florida Assoc. of Public Health Nurses (FAPHN) is funded solely by its members. Members are professional public health nurses, educators, nutrtionists, student nurses with focus in public health and associate members of the healthcare community supporting FAPHN's mission and vision. Since its' beginning December 2002, FAPHN has distributed 9 scholarships to individuals studying for their Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and to 5 working towards their advanced degree in nursing. This is a total of $8,000. FAPHN helps public health nurses with initiatives in providing services to their communities and in 6 years has paid $22,000 toward 20 projects. FAPHN is an organization worthy of your support. Without public health where would our communities be? For the record, all officers are volunteers. FAPHN does not have any paid staff.
