To alleviate hunger and malnutrition by recovering and distributing fresh and nutritious food to those who need it most.
Farm share is dedicated to recovering, washing, sorting, packing by volunteers and inmate labor, and distributing surplus nutritious food locally and statewide. During the fiscal year end 2015, over 32 million pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables from farmers around the state, in addition to canned, dry and frozen foods from the usda were received. Farm share distributed food to approximately 2,000 qualified agencies including soup kitchens, agencies serving the homeless, churches, senior residents and to individuals in 4 million low income families. Farm share has expanded it's reach by doing direct to the public food distributions, to over 1,000 households at a time, in designated "food desert" areas of the state. Farm share is also making deliveries of fresh produce, canned goods and frozen meats to senior housing centers where most of the residents receive assistance from the state and have no transportation. As always, farm share tries to help out the school children in the "food desert" locations with afterschool snacks. All in an effort to improve the nutritional quality of the food they receive.
