Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Emergency Assistance, Family Services, Human Service Organizations, Human Services

Mission: Family Service Association was founded in 1898 and has continuously provided services to low-income and homeless families for over 100 years. Our mission was, and still is: "To alleviate poverty, encourage self-sufficiency and promote the dignity of all people." This tradition continues today with programs that provide emergency support, case management, education and referral that focus on helping families become more self-sufficient.

Programs: Family Service Association currently operates two primary programs. Family Support is provided to low-income families needing assistance through a financial crisis that threatens their ability to maintain employment and prevent homelessness. The Home Again Program helps homeless families stabilize toward permanent housing and employment. A case management system helps staff work with families over time toward greater self-sufficiency. The agency also distributes surplus food and extensive holiday support programming.

I have voluntered in the ktchen feeding famlies and ran into an old school mate who was takng a class and to be fed. It made me realize that could be me. The staff were all courteous to the clients. They did not belittle the clients and were very appreciative of my help. My Grandchildren have also volunteered. I have also volunteered during Christmas handing out toys as well as putting food baskets together. What would those peole do without them?

I have volunteered at Family Service Association of Redlands for over 2 years now and I feel that this place is an extension of me and my family. My kids look forward to visiting and helping at the center, and that is because of the environment, not just for the people they help but also for the volunteers.
Volunteers at FSAoR, volunteers seem to form a bond with the organization as well with each other.
There is a lot other organizations can learn from FSAoR about dedicated and long term volunteering.

I have worked with FSAoR in two capacities: 1. As a social worker with Child Protective Services, I referred clients to this organization and 2. As a volunteer, with my family.
I was impressed with this program as a social worker because it meets many needs of a family: housing, food, child care, clothing, workshops, referrals, etc. It is not a program that just hands out basic necessities--they are invested in their clientele and want to help them succeed.
My family and I (including myself, my husband and our two sons), spent a day volunteering at FSA. We helped stock shelves in the food pantry. Although we have yet to return, it was a valuable experience in that it taught my children the importance of giving back to a community and to appreciate all the blessings in their lives. It helped remind my husband and I of that too. We do plan on continuing our involvement with FSA in the future. It is a valuable tool for the community, especially in these difficult economic times.

Family Services does so much for families in the community. They are so gracious, but also they work hard to make sure that each family has a good chance to get back on their feet. It isn't just about the donations that they give to families in need, but it also about the case management, the classes, the childcare, that really builds a strong support system for people in challenging situations.

Family Service Association has provided services in this community for more than 100 years. Their focus on families and encouraging self-sufficieny through case management, support services, and educational programs makes them unique in service programming. They provide not only basic life services like housing, food and clothing, they give hope and dignity to those in need. In this difficult economy the services they provide are more important than ever.

Redlands Family Service is one of the greatest organizations that I have volunteered at. As a young teenager they have taught me wonderful lessons and make me want to volunteer more. When ever I have gone to help out the people there are smiling and greatful for what I do. Let it be filling the shelves with canned food or packing supply bags, Redlands Family Service Center makes me feel like I can make a differnce. Not only does this group help many needy families in our town, they help the volunteers too. The place has a warm, happy atmosphere to it. No person can leave that place without becoming a better man. There are no words to describe how wonderful this place. They place food onto someone's table, and a simle on their face. This place is the best place for anyone to volunteer at, and I pray for their sucess. Thank you.

I have been involved with Family Service for more years than I can remember. It is an organization that does so much good in our community - and it doesn't just give a hand out to those who are in need. Not only does FSA provide assistance with food and clothing, it also offers housing assistance and classes in nutrition, computer skills, and training or re-training to get people back to work - and it does much, much more. FSA gives a hand up to its clients and works very hard in the reunification process of families who have become separated due to foster care and other temporary situations that attack the family unit and an individual's self-esteem. Family Service is a wonderful organization and I am proud to be a part of it - as a volunteer, a board member (though not currently), a committee worker, and a donor. Truly, those who work with Family Service are part of a greater whole - it is fun, rewarding, and the results are worth every moment of one's investment in time, energy, and dollars.

The Redlands Morning Kiwanis Club has for years supported the Family Service Association of Redlands. They tend to the needs of many families with children, and do it so graciously and kindly. I am delighted to support this organization in any way that I or my Kiwanis Club can.

The Family Services Association of Redlands fills a void serving the most vulnerable and at risk residents of our community. They do an outstanding job in managing resources in order to deliver the highest level of service possible to their clients. As an elected official for our City, I am proud that FSA truly reflects the sprit of caring that we embrace as a commuinty !!!
