Location: 612 Lawton St Redlands CA 92374 USA

Mission: Family Service Association was founded in 1898 and has continuously provided services to low-income and homeless families for over 100 years. Our mission was, and still is: "To alleviate poverty, encourage self-sufficiency and promote the dignity of all people." This tradition continues today with programs that provide emergency support, case management, education and referral that focus on helping families become more self-sufficient.
Programs: Family Service Association currently operates two primary programs. Family Support is provided to low-income families needing assistance through a financial crisis that threatens their ability to maintain employment and prevent homelessness. The Home Again Program helps homeless families stabilize toward permanent housing and employment. A case management system helps staff work with families over time toward greater self-sufficiency. The agency also distributes surplus food and extensive holiday support programming.

The Family Service Association of Redlands was founded in 1898 and has served the community continually for more than 112 years. The organization is a non-profit organization that serves needy families and individuals in Redlands, California and surrounding communities, providing food, clothing, and housing assistance plus counseling and educational services,

What differentiates the Family Service Association of Redlands from other similar organizations are the counseling and educational services designed to provide a good foundation on which the clients can begin to rebuild their lives.

During the current economic downturn the Family Service Association has been able to expand the volunteer services provided by individuals from many local schools, businesses, and service organizations to meet the increased need of its clients. These volunteers reflect the attitude of the local community toward those toward those having financial hardship due to the economy.

Significant funding to support the services provided by the Family Service Organization has previously come from government grants, but funding for many of those grants is being reduced or eliminated as government agency budgets are cut. Private donations and grants are becoming more importing sources of the income required to provide the services offered by the organization.

The Family Service Association of Redlands has a well established record of providing services to those in need. As the number served has increased and the diversity of these clients has broadened, the ability of the organization to recognize the changing needs of the client community and restructure the types of services provided has proved to be a valuable asset.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Having spent nearly 100o hours volunteering during the past two years I have seen individuals and families in need and have witnessed their gratitude when they received the goods and services needed at that moment in their lives. Volunteering has, in a small way, has helped me better understand how the economy can devastate the lives of others.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The organization is made up of a small group of dedicated employees who are assisted by a very large group of volunteers. The only change that I would make to the organization would be to increase the number case workers who directly interface with the clients to determine their needs and identify the services to be provided. Unfortunately, adding staff members requires additional funding at a time when competition for funds is increasing.

The Family Services Association of Redlands fills a void serving the most vulnerable and at risk residents of our community. They do an outstanding job in managing resources in order to deliver the highest level of service possible to their clients. As an elected official for our City, I am proud that FSA truly reflects the sprit of caring that we embrace as a commuinty !!!

I have watched this charity for many years and been very impressed with how they help children and families who are mired in poverty. Their mission is to give a hand up not a handout, and they do it very well. I have recently joined the board and am even more impressed with the dedication of the volunteers and the staff, as well as the programs. I am looking forward to participating in alleviating pain in my community as a result of the good work of the Family Service Association.

work hard to assist them in finding more resources to continue and expand their programs.

Family Service Association is the best "hometown" charitable organization in America. It brings nearly every segment of the Redlands community together in assisting those in need in the area, primarily focused on families with children, but single men and women are also assisted. I was proud to have been the Executive Director of this great organization for ten years. It represents the best in all of us.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the hundreds of families and children who have received help - over the years, thousands!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The amazing volunteers and how the community comes together to help others.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Always the most caring and compassionate.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

If I were there, I would develop a program with the schools to help many more students excel, going to college or attending technical/trade school.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?
