FSA is unique in that it is a "hand up" not just a "hand out". Clients are all assigned a case worker who helps them out of their situation in various ways. The case workers are very knowledgeable of the services in the community and also have many useful programs within the FSA program to pull from to help families regain stability. There is a large volunteer base that is very connected to FSA's mission. The donor funds are carefully used and the administrative expenses are kept to a minimum.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my dealings as a board member and volunteer with the child care program, holiday programs and pantry.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

like to have the funds to provide more case workers and more computer programs to better track client outcomes and donor information.

On several occasions I have had the good fortune to donate some still usable items to Family Services of Redlands. They have been plesant to deal with, efficient, and provide those articles to local families and individuals who are in need. I prefer to donate to an agency who works for local individuals. Using the Family Service Association of Redlands I know I am helping the local area and working with an honorable agency.

I donayed my older, but usable bicycles to the Family Service association. They provided the bikes to citizens who needed them to begin a job or look for work. This was an excellent use of these goods.

I would make no changes to the current set-up

It has been my privilege to serve Family Service for more than 20 years as a volunteer, a board member, and currently as President of the Board. I remain committed to Family Service because it is an organization that strives to fulfill its mission to alleviate poverty, to encourage self-sufficiency, and to promote the dignity of all clients.

Since its founding in 1898 Family Service has had the ability to adjust its programs to meet the needs of its clients. Today it not only provides food and clothing, but it also provides case management, essential to opening the path to self-sufficiency. In addition, housing opportunities, employment and basic life skills classes, and counselling are offered.

The Family Service staff is dedicated to providing the best possible services for the clients. Programs, such as the recent Spring Festival, for the children and their parents, are opportunities to develop strong families. All clients are treated with dignity by the staff and the volunteers.

The community support, both the volunteers and the monetary support, is outstanding,

First, provide increased resources to be able to increase the number of staff in order to better serve the clients. Increase employment opportunities for the clients who are in need of employment. Employment is a must on the path to self-sufficiency.

I have voluntered in the ktchen feeding famlies and ran into an old school mate who was takng a class and to be fed. It made me realize that could be me. The staff were all courteous to the clients. They did not belittle the clients and were very appreciative of my help. My Grandchildren have also volunteered. I have also volunteered during Christmas handing out toys as well as putting food baskets together. What would those peole do without them?

I have volunteered at Family Service Association of Redlands for over 2 years now and I feel that this place is an extension of me and my family. My kids look forward to visiting and helping at the center, and that is because of the environment, not just for the people they help but also for the volunteers.
Volunteers at FSAoR, volunteers seem to form a bond with the organization as well with each other.
There is a lot other organizations can learn from FSAoR about dedicated and long term volunteering.

I have worked with FSAoR in two capacities: 1. As a social worker with Child Protective Services, I referred clients to this organization and 2. As a volunteer, with my family.
I was impressed with this program as a social worker because it meets many needs of a family: housing, food, child
care, clothing, workshops, referrals, etc. It is not a program that just hands out basic necessities--they are invested in their clientele and want to help them succeed.
My family and I (including myself, my husband and our two sons), spent a day volunteering at FSA. We helped stock shelves in the food pantry. Although we have yet to return, it was a valuable experience in that it taught my children the importance of giving back to a community and to appreciate all the blessings in their lives. It helped remind my husband and I of that too. We do plan on continuing our involvement with FSA in the future. It is a valuable tool for the community, especially in these difficult economic times.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find a way to get them more funding to expand the program--especially with shelter.

Family Services does so much for families in the community. They are so gracious, but also they work hard to make sure that each family has a good chance to get back on their feet. It isn't just about the donations that they give to families in need, but it also about the case management, the classes, the childcare, that really builds a strong support system for people in challenging situations.

Family Service Association has provided services in this community for more than 100 years. Their focus on families and encouraging self-sufficieny through case management, support services, and educational programs makes them unique in service programming. They provide not only basic life services like housing, food and clothing, they give hope and dignity to those in need. In this difficult economy the services they provide are more important than ever.

As long-time affiliate of United Way, I was familiar with Family Service and its work in the city of Redlands, since it received funding from United Way. It was, and is, an efficiently operating organization that uses funds wisely. It has the respect and support of the community, more so than most other agencies.
