Faith in Action Caregivers of Wheeling and the Ohio Valley is an organization whose mission is to make it possible for elderly and disabled individuals maintain their independence by providing many of the needed services that enable individuals to remain in their own homes. These services, such as transportation to medical and other appointments, home and gardening chores, grocery shopping, compassionate visitations and respite care, are provided by a group of community volunteers who are trained and supervised by an office staff of caring professionals. This small and dedicated staff handles calls for assistance, matches the invididual requiring assistance with a compatible volunteer, and follows up to assure that the service has been properly provided. Volunteers are trained by the Executive Director and are prepared to handle situations that may arise in the course of providing service. I have been trained as a volunteer and have enjoyed the relationships that I have had with service recipients. In my role as President of the Board, it has been my privilege to work with the dedicated staff of Faith in Action and with the other caring professionals that make up the Board of Directors.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

spreading the word. As an Episcopal Priest, I have been able to link some of my parishoners who need transportation with Faith in Action Caregivers and have involver my congregations in supporting this organization as volunteers or as financial supporters.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

work even harder to get the word out about Faith in Action and encourage more people to volunteer and make contributions so that more people could experience the help they need to maiontain their independence.

Faith in Action is an organization focused on enabling older and disabled individuals to maintain their independence. Whether taking a person to an appointment, helping them shop or shopping for them, spending time in their home doing light housework, or reading to them, these activities allow others to live at home and have a sense of independence. Having driven a number of individuals to appointments has allowed me to experience the gratitude these people display for the service provided. I have also met many new people and learned much from them. This service adds to the quality of life of those living in this region

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

many ways. I know the leadership of the organization is dedicated and desires to use the resources of the organization in the most effective ways possible. I am always amazed at the generosity of the volunteers. I have seen the independence experienced by individuals who have used Faith in Action's services.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

wish for greater contibutions from donors, grants, and institutions allowing for less time to be spent on fundraising and more time spent on serving those in need of the services of Faith in Action.

Faith in Action Caregivers of Wheeling/ Ohio Valley performs a very valuable service. Many older and disabled people in our community are often able to continue to live independently at home with just a little help, like transportation to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping or friendly visits. This is the type of services that FIAC provides. Dedicated, compassionate and talented staff members match volunteers with care receivers. An incredible amount of work is done toward supporting older and disabled people on a very small budget. Donors can be assured that their contributions go to help those most in need with a minimum of overhead. Volunteers are trained and screened. Care receivers are enthusiastically appreciative! I only wish a service like this were available in the community where my elderly mother lives. I would not hestitate to recommend Faith in Action Caregivers of Wheeling/ Ohio Valley.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the number of care receivers and volunteers grow dramatically every year.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

love to see more fiinancial support from donors and grants to free our staff from having to give so much attention to fund raising!
