I went to the Faces of Courage Womens Cancer Camp in September 2012, just after I had been diagnosed with breast cancer (I had been previously diagnosed with lung cancer in December 2010, and attended a different cancer camp in October 2011). Faces of Courage camp was so different than the others. There was a great camaraderie amongst the women. The programs they offered for us were tremendous. The food was spectacular. And the dance at night was so much fun!
This is a fantastic organization that does so much good in the community. I highly recommend it!!

What an amazing group of people - Peggy puts together a full weekend of fun and activities for women and children touched by cancer. Top doctors come in and speak to the participants, massage therapist, beauticians, kayaking and archery instructors, life coaches and more all come out and donate their time and talents to challenge participants to try new things. I do not know of a better charity in the local area working with persons on so many levels!

I have been helping out with camps for many years. Seeing kids laugh, share stories both fun and sad, having parents get a break from their sometimes crazy life, and of course the food and canoe races, makes it all worth while. This is why I help out.

A weekend camping trip with several 'cancer moms' that was truly amazing. The volunteers, ESPECIALLY PEGGY, were caring, compassionate and selfless in providing an escape from the reality of living with cancer. Many activities were planned throughout the weekend such as free Mary Kay mini facials, massages, jewelry making, fishing, butterfly release ceremony, costume party, and my favorite the chocolate fountain and desserts night! There was something to do or not to do in this beautiful tucked away camp. It was a much needed break from the stresses of everyday life and I pray that this foundation continues to receive volunteers, donations and funds to help other with cancer.

I came to know this organization thru a breast cancer survivor and was quickly committed to making lives better for those that the organization serves. My passion is children and I will always do what is needed to help them make their camps happen. With funding being so short last year the Santa's Workshop almost didn't happen. Through the generosity of family and friends I was able to contribute a small amount of money. The children and families served would have nothing else during the holidays if not for this camp. Kudos to Peggy and all the volunteers that make this happen.

The effect it has on children and their families cannot be put into words. The support it's breast cancer patients receive is immeasurable because most have no knowledge of what to expect and what services are available to them.

There wasn't the constant stress about where we were going to get funding for the next camp.

Funding due to donation being down and the economy so depressed. We must find a new revenue stream in order to survive in todays economy.
One thing I'd also say is that...
As someone who has been unemployed due to the economy I will always find a way to serve. I can't do it financially but will always be there as a volunteer.

This is one of the best charities that I can think of to lift the spirit of those suffering or those who have had cancer. I had the great oppertunity of going to women's camps and also volunteered as a cabin elf at the Santa's Workshop. I also collected a car load of gifts for the camp and some money to help with the expense. My experience with both is one that I shall never forget. It was so much fun being with a bunch of women who had been to the same place as I had and to support those who were just going through it. Also the kids camp was awesome, to see those faces light up and have so much fun. It was also great that the kids could bring a sibling along with them. I would urge any organization to support this Foundation with whatever they can, and through this they will give many many cancer survivors, and those that are in treatment a way to have fun and forget all about the dreader disease. Thank you.

Faces of Courage provides special and sometimes unbelievable experiences for those the Foundation serves. As a high school counselor and the sponsor of an honor society, I coordinate numerous opportunities for my students to volunteer with Faces of Courage. Volunteering with this organization is a life-changing experience for many students. They see such joy in the faces of the children they encounter at the camnps! In an essay, one of my students wrote: "Since the 10th grade, I have been volunteering for Faces of Courage (FOC). Every December, FOC has sponsored “Santa’s Workshop Weekend,” a camp for children from ages three to 12 who have been ‘touched’ by cancer in some way. For a weekend, a community of children gathers for fun and games. Each year, I have played the role as a ‘buddy elf,’ in which I am to pair up with a child and be his/her own little ‘elf’ for the day. I have been Thai ’s buddy elf for three years and running. A mutual relationship: He looks up to me—I serve him. The climax of the event was the actual Santa’s workshop. These exceptional children were given the chance to enter “Santa’s workshop” where they shopped for toys and other gifts. However, the motive to enter the paradise was unique. Anyone that goes into the Santa’s workshop can only select gifts for their friends and family. I admired this wonderful intention: giving to others produced loving appreciation for everyone. My heart was touched by the level of consideration by all. Even the rowdy, messy-haired kid managed to get the gift of his sister’s dreams. In the workshop, I helped Thai carry his selections. As he walked up and down each aisle he verbally asked himself what everyone would like this Christmas. I felt pride in my support of an organization that promotes these selfless acts of compassionate consideration. ...I was able to make a positive impact on not just Thai. That little boy represented every kid with cancer—to bring a smile to his face was working toward the goal to bring happiness to them all."

The Faces of Courage Foundation has shown true dedication to helping make a difference in the lives of children coping with cancer and other blood disorders like sickle cell anemia. I appreciate the earnest efforts and community networking they have extended to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Upper Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando Counties, Inc. This is a compassionate and caring foundation. Where else could 90 plus children and women have the benefit of being offered a camp where they can forget about cancer for an entire weekend. A weekend packed with activities, and for the children a parade; new friendships, and developing life long friends. Without support from the community and the wonderful fund raising opportunities, the camps can not be made possible to these brave women and children, some in the battle for their life. Think what you would want if this opportunity came into your life. Won't you help support a camper, and allow them the opportunity to "forget about life for a while". (Billy Joel)
