I found this website at age 14 after having tried marijuana. It opened up a whole new window of knowledge that helped me to make informed decisions about my substance use, including the decision to put off trying harder drugs until I was 18. To this day I still refer people who are making their decisions about substances based on here say, propaganda or complete ignorance. Erowid is doing the community a service by far.

I have used and supported EROWID for many years and it has only grown in its credibility and usefulness, now recognized as a reliable source by the academic community. As a college professor it is a site I recommend to all students as an accurate source of information for the various plants and other chemicals that naturally circulate on campuses. Their pill-ID section is a very important public service. EROWID is a necessary resource for relevant and reliable information that can help prevent drug related disasters through education.

This service is invaluable in today's society. Erowid bridges the gap between user-generated experiential content and academic content, and delivers it in a package accessible to anyone.

I'm a psychonaut, I have many friends, and have known many friends who use recreational drugs. Erowid has been my almost exclusive source for drug related information since I began using drugs. I am a bit more scientific about my use than many of my friends were who got me into consciousness play. I researched the hell out of any drug I tried for a while before I tried them, and when I couldn't get my hands on anything new, I'd spend my time on mild substances like cannabis, wine and coffee, slowly perusing the site's incredible number of vaults. I learned about dosage and safety, contraindictions, legal implications, and even got a broad idea of the effects I could expect from a drug through experience reports. I learned the good and bad about a million things I'd never tried, and still haven't. And yet, as the years went by, a friend would tell me about a fun drug fueled night they had coming up, and I would remember something I read on erowid, and pass along the info. Through the education I gave myself through this site, I know without a doubt that I have saved the lives of at least 3 people, besides myself by having just a little extra knowledge.

We don't have to be statistics. Drug use doesn't have to be dangerous. With the proper tools like Erowid, we can end an era of misinformation and disinformation about drugs, and save lives instead of threatening them, or putting them behind bars.

Thank you, Erowid.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Fund these guys so they could have a proper staff, catch up on all of the info that needs to be edited and published. The experience reports are backed up by the thousands. There are new substances (and even not so new substances) that don't have vaults yet because they don't have the manpower to put in the hours. We are talking life saving information, especially when it comes to the traiterous world of research chemicals.

Erowid is the reason that in the past 15 years SWIM has been able to stay safe while abusing all kinds of opiates, psychedelics, piperazines, amphetamines, dissociatives, benzodiazepines and a wide range of other pharmaceuticals, plant extracts, and essential oils, without ever being permanently harmed.

If SWIM had to rely on anecdotal evidence and forum posts, SWIM would surely be dead by now.

I recommend that all Erowid users donate, you also get the Erowid Extracts magazine which is pretty cool.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

add a system where users report actual drug trades anonymously. A buyer could then report that on approximate location X they bought a drug claimed to be Y at a price Z. Then Erowid could do stats on the world's black market economy and report them to the public. Information would be of low quality but with proper mining it could still show trends if stats are done on large data samples.

Erowid is an essential resource to read and share about peoples' experiences with psychoactive drugs. It contains a wealth of important information pertaining to the safe and responsible use of mind-altering substances. It is the go-to guide to psychonautism and the practical tips offered have ensured my safety and well being during my experiences. It also contributes to serious research and knowledge creation. The size of the archives and the sheer quantity of user testimonies is incredible. I highly suggest people consult Erowid before consuming any mind-altering substances, it will definitely maximize your experience while minimizing the risk. Browsing its pages is always tons of fun because the content does not limit itself to clinical drug use but also to the philosophy and psychology of altered states of mind.
