My husband and I adopted 2 donkeys from Geri in 2008. She was wonderful to work with. She answered all of my questions. I would recomend her to anyone wishing to Adopt a horse or donkey. She is doing a Great Service by helping all equine find a new and loving home!!!! If I was looking for another Donkey I would contact Geri first. Thank You Geri From Jeff and Mary and Jenni and Dixie

I have volunteered with Equine Aid for about a year now and have gotten to know Geri and Doug well. They take such great care of the horses and donkeys (and Ruben the hinny!). They get the best care and the most important thing is the welfare of the animals. A lot of them come from very abusive and neglectful situations and need months to years of costlly rehab. Geri carefully screens all adoptable applicants and does a home visit before adopting any out. Many will live out their lives there, hanging out with their friends knowing they are loved and cared for. I hope that they are recognized for their efforts and get more donors and volunteers so they can continue saving and rehabbing horses for a long time!

I purchased my best friend Griph from Equine Aid. Griph was a horse that was destined to be slaughtered. Geri and Doug rescued him gave him all the medical attention that he required, which was quite a lot. She trimmed his very overgrown feet herself. Equine Aid and the amazing people that operate that facility saved my friends life. They did it for the pure reason that he was a horse that needed help and they could save him. Little do they know they helped save my life by introducing me to Griph. Thanks to Geri and Doug many horses still have their gift of life, and many people have a gift of a companion that they helped save. I started volunteering my time with Equine Aid after my experience with them in hopes to help say thank you for all that they did. To be honest I couldn’t say thank you enough. I will return back to help in any way that I can, soon. I would almost call Equine Aid a horse sanctuary. The only problem is the horse that you adopt might not want to leave that beautiful place with those people that are so nice. Thanks to Equine Aid for all that they do and will do. You guys are literally life savers. Keep up the good work.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them the adequate funds to be able to allow them to operate in the capacity that I know they want to.

What one change could this group make that would improve your volunteer experience?

Let me work harder:)

Did your volunteer experience have an effect on you? (teaching you a new skill, or introducing new friends, etc.)

I met many new horse friends and heard their touching stories. The entire experience inspired me to rescue horses when I am able to down the road.

How did this volunteer experience make you feel?

Very good

In my opinion Equine Aid is doing very important work in our community. We live in a rural area, which unfortunately, has many unwanted, neglected and abused equines. In the current economy, folks that could have afforded one or two horses or donkeys in the past are not able to provide their animals with even the most basic needs. As a result animals are left in pastures all winter with no food or clean water. In the spring we are left with hundreds of sick animals and no one to care for them. Some horses have even been dumped in the wilderness to fend for themselves.

I have seen how hard Geri and Doug work to save these animals and when appropriate, they will have them put out of their misery. They take responsibility for these animals when even their owners cannot or will not do it.

I highly recommend continuing their non-profit status. I will continue to support them as long as they serve our community.

In my opinion this is the most ethical and responsible rescue in the area. They take in horses who need help, put the time/money/energy into getting them better, then find them good homes. They have helped me to get two mares over the years and they not only were great at the time, but they offered on-going help as I could call them up at any time with my questions or concerns. A+

In addition to all they do on their own, they also reach out and help community wide.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I only wish there were more groups like this one.

When I needed help with placing my two miniature horses, Geri and her team were wonderful. I have a medical condition, that leaves me cripple, and I could no longer care for my pets of 15 years. She place my guys in a wonderful home, after she made sure the vet work was a done and the home was perfect. Thank you every one who has helped me.

I have volunteered at Equine Aid and know from first hand experience that it is an honest and well run facility. The animals there are truly loved and cared for. You are free to ask any questions, you can see any of the animals, no hidden agendas. I knew next to nothing about horses and donkeys - by the end of the first day, I was cleaning hooves, grooming and interacting safely with some amazing creatures. I feel that donations to this sanctuary are so well deserved.
