Having been involved in the horse industry for many years and having had some previous experience with another therapeutic riding center, I can confidently say that Equi-Ed is a fantastic program. Not only is it a great place for the students but it's also a wonderful place for the horses, volunteers, and staff. Equi-Ed staff always ensures the utmost safety of the students and horses while making it a fun and enriching environment for everyone involved. The students are always stimulated with new and exciting lesson activities while being able to enjoy the comradery of their equine companions. The horses are taken care of very well and the staff goes to great efforts to make sure the horses are healthy and happy at all times.

I have worked with several therapeutic riding programs in the past and Equi-Ed holds its staff and volunteers to a higher standard than any other I've known. It is all about quality instruction for students, quality care for the horses and ongoing educational opportunities for everyone involved.

I have first hand knowledge of what it takes to have the heart, drive and patience to be in this field. Each and every time I visit Equi-Ed, their program reminds me of why I am here. The joy and satisfaction I get from seeing the smiles and the light in every individuals eye's that is helped in some way by this program re-invigerates me and keeps me going. Equi-Ed helps us all on many levels!

I found Equi-Ed through their educational involvement with the Santa Rosa Junior College in 2004. The volunteer training class I took part in was the best class I have taken to date. This organization is second to none. The level of knowledge and organization is what all organizations should aspire to. Over the years I have seen so many wonderful lives transformed from the work that is done at Equi-Ed. The care for their therapy animals is amazing. We are truly blessed to have such a resource in our community!

I am a physical therapist and also currently volunteer and assist with this fantastic program. Horses are an incredible therapeutic tool due to their movement which is quite similiar to that of a walking human. RIders with physical disabilities can experience the dynamic movement forward that many have never felt! And what an amazing feeling to control a 1000 lb animal when so many areas of these rider's lives are out of their control.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Santa Rosa, CA

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would like to add Hippotherapy to the program which is using the horse's movement to facilitate improvement in the patient/rider

As the founder, Executive Director and one of the instructors at Equi-Ed it is my daily experience to come together with a group of volunteers, students, parents, caretakers and fellow staff that are the most positive, dedicated and motivated people I know. Besides the physical benefits our incredible horses provide to our students, we also have a strong emphasis on life-long educational opportunities for everyone involved. Our affiliation with Santa Rosa Junior College Equine Science and Adapted Physical Education departments helps in the attainment of that part of our Mission statement. Each of our students, from 4 through adulthood receive individualized instruction, provided by instructors whose credentials and experience surpass the basic nationally excepted standard. Lessons are designed to maximize independence while being stimulating, challenging and FUN! ;all the while maintaining the upmost emphasis on safety. I love working and teaching at Equi-Ed; the combination of horses and people gives me inspiration and an energy that never wanes.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The positive effects on students and feeling of well-being experienced by everyone.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Have our own facility with a covered arena, and an endowment to secure program operations including student scholarships.

My now 34 year old daughter began riding in a therapeutic riding program 22 years ago. I was so impressed with the positive results that she achieved from her riding! Strength, coordination, balance...... and most importantly, the gumption to "be in charge", "be the leader" in order to direct the 1/2 ton animal that she was riding. I found Equi-Ed and began volunteering for them. As a NARHA Premier Accredited program, Equi-Ed taught me how to provide safe and fun horsemanship and riding lessons to people with specal needs. After 10+ years with Equi-Ed and after moving to another state, I have now begun a small therapeutic riding program here, and every day count my blessings for having been "brought up" by such a wonderful program as Equi-Ed, which has now given me the skills to carry on in serving more people with special needs.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My daughter has Down Syndrome and is deaf. She rode with Equi-Ed, and I am proud to say that she has lived independently for 8 years! I attribute her independence to her exposure and relationship with horses through Equi-Ed.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them a home of their own, with classrooms and a covered arena so that they could continue to support the community of people interested in learning more about therapeutic riding...... potential instructors, volunteers, and of course, in serving more riders.

I have been involved in the field of therapeutic riding since 1998 and I have been involved with Equi-Ed as a staff member since 2003. What has kept me here so long you may ask? An amazing community of people-volunteers, fellow staff, parents and students! I am so privileged to be a part of this organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

This program not only helps to enrich the lives of those with special needs, but has touched my life in ways I never thought possible.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

want to increase the funding the program receives so all students, regardless of financial means, could receive lessons year round, full time.

Equi-Ed is a wonderfully magical place! The horses are gentle, kind and quiet. The volunteers are professional, and help to keep everything running safely and smoothly! What a wonderful facility and program. Thank you!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Students increased level of self-esteem and self worth!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with the Executive Director, Max Freitas and Shiela McCarthy.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

helpful and friendly.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Be of assistance to many more clients throughout Napa, Sonoma and Marin Counties!

Ways to make it better...

We could have lessons every day of the week!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Getting their name out there.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have enjoyed every minute at Equi-Ed.
