Programs:

ECS is the School Readiness provider for six counties in Northeast Florida, brining a unified approach to the region. This results in better beginnings for children and ensures they are eager to learn and ready to succeed when they enter kindergarten.

The ECS Regional Institute for Early Childhood Education provides professional development training for early-childhood educators, preparing caregivers for mandatory state credentialing as Child Development Associates (CDA). ECS is now an IACET-approved provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). All of our workshop attendees can acquire CEUs for each hour of successful completion of classes.

CCR&R provides valuable information to parents about a wide range of providers, including school-based care, weekend care, before- and after-school programs and summer camps.

ECS operates one child development centers offering full-day, high-quality early education, including Florida’s Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) program for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

In 2005, ECS organized the five-county start-up and registration of children and providers for the state-mandated Voluntary Pre-K program. Since that time, we have expanded our services into an additional county, which allows us to serve 148 providers and 4,100 children.

ECS operates nine Head Start centers and two Early Head Start centers in Baker, Bradford, Clay, Nassau and Union counties.

In partnership with the Early Learning Coalition of Duval, Florida Institute of Education and Early Child Guidance, ECS is providing comprehensive early literacy and mental health services for children and families in 35 centers located in Health Zone I, Duval County. As part of the Jacksonville Journey Anti-Crime Initiative, the early childhood component is modeled upon the Head Start program – addressing the needs of the whole child. Quality support teams consisting of Team Leaders, Preschool, Infant & Toddler, Professional Development, Early Intervention, Family Involvement and Environmental Coaches assess each program, teacher and child to develop action plans for assisting growth and development in the areas of greatest need. Families are encouraged to participate in their child’s educational and mental health development through implementation of a family involvement curriculum.

The initiative is the vision of Mayor John Peyton and key community leaders who are interested in improving the literacy rate in Jacksonville by reaching out to the community’s youngest learners. These visionaries know that the development of language and literacy skills are necessary for children to enter school ready to learn.

ECS, along with other leading organizations, teams of coaches, technical assistance staff and trained volunteers, is deployed into child care centers to help directors and teachers improve the quality of their environments, teaching methods and curricula and promote the Guiding Stars of Duval.

The Guiding Stars of Duval, a voluntary program, was created by the Early Learning Coalition of Duval to serve as a quality-rating improvement system for early-learning centers. This quality-rating system has established guidelines for centers to help them improve their quality of care and prepare children to start school ready to learn.

In 2007, ECS partnered with Nemours BrightStart! and the United Way of Northeast Florida to engage people who receive school readiness services to be full participants in the early-learning experience to their children, increase parents’ training for and involvement in their children’s preschool education, and offer guidance and training in family involvement to more than 100 providers who offer s

ECS is a great program. They have plenty of resources and offer alot of staff coaching as well as professional development to directors. The program does require alot of work but it's worth it. They showed me a more organized way of operating my daycare center. From paperwork, to interaction with children to different ways of teaching children to learn through play. Just a great program.

We live and work in a very impoverished community. We have been affiliated with ECS for a number of years and have found them to be top-notch! They are always willing to go the extra mile and do whatever they can to provide services for our clients. Anytime we need their assistance (phone/email/letter,etc) we have found they are very quick in their response. I could go on but the bottom line is this, WE THINK ECS IS GREAT! What a wonderful coalition to be a part of!

I am the Director of a child care center in Baker County Florida called ABC Learning Center. Episcopal Children’s Services known as (ECS), has been a big help to our center. They provide a wonderful service to our under income clients. ECS will help our under income clients that qualify with subsidize affordable childcare. If I have any questions or concerns they have always provided me with a fast response. This is a wonderful program that helps parents or sometimes single parents be able to go to work and help provide for their family. ECS also offers help in the classrooms, this is a big help when you have a new beginner teacher. ECS has offered trainings, ideals, support coach, encouragement & has also provided materials for the classroom. I use 3 different agencies for under income families. ECS is by far my favorite, There is always someone on the other end of the phone willing to help me, no automated machine press this number or that number, It is a live friendly person that I can understand and they are willing to help. If you are on the phone a lot, dealing with 123 children, 14 employees, & parents that is what kind help you need not a hard time.
