I have worked in many fields, grew up in a small town of less than 1,000 people, a farm community, worked on farms, in construction, manufacturing, welding, operating forklift, overhead crane, maintenace in plastic molding, received an Associates Degree in Auto Tech, ASE Certified, drove truck ten years, & have been a freight broker for three years, Once a freight broker I found how much waste there is in freight transportation yet the industry, representatives in DC, as with health care refuse to accept, or acknowledge we're on a head-on collision with the next too big to fail. The transportation system we use is outdated, we waste billions of dollars a year, not only in transportation, but due to transportation. Traffic congestion, deadhead miles, accidents, injury, resulting in rising health care costs, & more. In research to better my business as a broker I came across EESI & the information is great, proof backing up all I have found in most everything I have on my site. If we could get our representatives to listen, put this IT ahead of self interest, & contributors we could easily turn this nation around. The 21st century is proving to be a challenge we have not yet realized, many people left behind because they refuse to accept, utilize the information, & IT available. While we're in wars EESI makes the point as Energy Innovation in Our Nation’s Defense America’s energy choices are inextricably linked to national and economic security. America’s oil dependence leaves the nation vulnerable to hostile nations and diverts hundreds of billions of dollars out of the economy each year. Declining oil supplies combined with increased global demand will only increase these pressures and impact our ability to remain militarily strong and agile. DOD is uniquely positioned, because of its own energy security needs, to help drive the market for innovative applications and broad utilization of clean energy technologies. Key partnerships with other federal agencies and the private sector can help DOD unleash the full force of American innovation and investment leadership in clean energy technologies. If you look at the sacrifices young Americans are making, wounded, dying for their country, we spend trillions on these wars, & will spend trillions on health care for Vets, it's impossible to not recognize the importance of sites such as EESI! Of all the sites I have on www.b4dcfreoight.com EESI seems to bring the most valuable information in that it brings the reality of the cost of war, importance of energy independence, & possibly the key to national security. Thanks EESI for a great job, I hope everyone in the nation, if not world wake up to the facts you bring so we can one day find a more intelligent way to solve problems than going to war in which we only compound those problems.

EESI provides valuable, progressive clean energy and environment knowledge to the legislative community who are continually fed misinformation from high powered lobbying firms representing fossil fuel industries. EESI briefings provide strong content on a variety pressing energy and environment subjects which would otherwise not be heard on Capitol Hill. As the fossil fuel lobby's war chest is enormous with extensive reach, EESI is an important organization to support.

EESI performs a vital service in linking subject matter experts to Members of Congress and their staff on pressing and emerging environmental and energy issues and opportunities. Everyone would be worse off without EESI!

EESI is extraordinary. It serves as a vital link between Congress and the environmental community as well as private sector organizations involved in environmental and energy issues. It holds about 20 briefings a year for Members of Congress and their staffs, open to the public, with an average attendance of about 100. It puts together coalitions of private organizations and NGOs to formulate passable environmental and energy legislation and stop damaging legislation, with great success. It also assists Members of Congress with handling environmental and energy issues in their districts.

There were increased resources to do their important work, though they have achieved extraordinary support from foundations, individuals, companies and matching employee funds, always producing a surplus.

EESI does a phenomenal job of bringing critical information on energy and the environment to decision makers and other constituents. By brining key experts together to deliver critical messages, they advance the cause of sustainability in ways that few others can claim.

I have been on the Board of Trustees for EESI since the beginning when I was very involved with Congressman Dick Ottenger in putting PURPA together. EESI has done a great job in educating the congressional staff and the congress on the importanc of clean renewable energy. EESI has been very helpful to Decker Energy International, Inc. and Midland Energy, L.L.C. in making contact and commuicating with congress. The fact that Preident Obama has a goal of doubling the amount of renewable energy produced in the U.S.A. in the next three years is evidence of EESI's good work.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

I joined the EESI Board of Directors in the very beginning when Congressman Richard Ottinger and I had been instrumental in getting "PURPA" passed. I am considered by many as the author of PURPA and Dick Ottinger is the one that got it passed. Decker Energy International, Inc. is a biomass company and has benefited from EESI's support and educational programs. For example; Carol Werner, Executive Director of EESI set up meetings for DEI with congressional staff. DEI still supports EESI in some of their educational meetings. I look foreward to setting up meetings with Obama's energy team when I am in Washington, D.C. for our next EESI Board Meeting to further develop President Obama's goal of doubling our renewable energy production and helping to reduce our oil imports. I am very happy that President Obamahas chosen Dr. Chu for his Secretary of Energy because his background is so well suited to developing renewable energy for our country. EESI is doing a very important job and doing it very well.

This organization serves an educational and advocacy function on critical environmental issues. With a dedicated staff developing credible and highly authoritative presentations for the staff of the U.S. Congress, EESI has impressed me as highly factual and relevant to decision makers affecting all our lives.

For the past two years we have been developing a national science education and outreach project, supported by both NSF and NASA. POLAR-PALOOZA will have reached 25 communities by Spring 2009, sharing the latest research at Earth's poles and its implications for climate change across the USA. EESI's regular news digests, and special climate change survey compilations, have been extremely helpful: current, comprehensive and insightful. We are now planning a new project, focusing on solutions, in which science centers and natural history museums can become (to paraphrase Brandeis) "laboratories of energy innovation." We hope to make EESI's news bulletins a component of our online materials. Why re-invent the wheel when the originators are doing such a good job!
