I have watched this organization grow and develop from its inception. I am proud of the work Vicky is doing with the girls in our community and support all her efforts. I've seen the sacrifices she has made to ensure the girls receive everything they need and its been my pleasure to support her financially. I also provided professional soccer services during her camps at Houston Baptist University and University of Houston. It was the girls' first experience with soccer and they were great. I hope to collaborate more with Elizabeth Haven in the capacity of providing soccer training for her organization and in any other way I can. I really believe in what they are doing and I believe in Vicky.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I witnessed the first girl who was serviced prior to Elizabeth Haven receiving nonprofit status. This girl was pregnant and had nowhere to go. Vicky took her into her home, nurtured and loved her like her own child. She had a healthy baby and when the baby was 6 months old, she and Vicky went looking at colleges. The girl entered TX A&M, lived in family housing, did work study and took very good care of her baby. She graduated from college with her degree and immediately got a job in her field.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The changes I would make to this organization would be to expand its reach through greater financial support and paid professional staff to increase and enhance programs offered.

This is a great organization. I believe the impact of the girls being exposed to life on a college campus alone is worth the time spent making that happen. These young ladies are being given an opportunity I never had. I think if I had this camp when I was younger, I would have made some different choices because I would have known what was really available.
Above the great experience, these girls are learning communication and interpersonal skills to help them express their individual personalities with a greater respect for others as well.
I'm mostly grateful that these young ladies are being provided experiences outside of their current reality and out of their state. The first few years of the camp, the organization stayed on college campuses here in Texas. Last year was the first year the camp went out of state. Beyond recognizing college is an option, these girls now recognize the importance of finding a college which is a good fit for their life, their career pursuits and to find a college which specializes in their major. This has opened up eyes to out of state opportunities.

As anyone who volunteers knows, we may expect to give out and never think how much we will learn and grow from the experience. Being at camp last year helped me to have more confidence in my individuality. I'm still learning how not to people please and this gave me an opportunity to grow in that area.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would like to see this organization expand it's current scope of summer camp to quarterly and eventually monthly gatherings to support these young ladies in education, faith-based experiences, extra-curricular activities and college and career planning. It would be great to see and support them more than the one week during camp.

I volunteer one week of vacation time from my place of employment to share in the future of young ladies in the Houston community. One of many activites I support is Camp Elizabeth. This camp impacts the whole person Body (anatomy, five senses, and appetites) Soul (mind, will and emotions) Spirit (life, light and love). My decision to support this organization is determined by its vision, leadership and results.

As a parent of a former camper, I can measure the success of this program, through my daughter's current career status, she is currently attending a top four year college in North Miami, Fl, majoring in culinary arts and event planning- results future global top chef. In 2010 my daughter gave back to Camp Elizabeth by volunteering as a junior counselor.

Elizabeth Haven has been a great benefit to our community and the young girls in it. This program has enabled them to connect with other girls their age, some who are currently experiencing challenges and others who have made it through them. With events throughout the year and the camp experience, these girls lives will never be the same. The volunteers are excited and dedicated. They pull through to ensure that these campers are met with love and acceptance no matter what their lives may have brought. The counselors and volunteers that facilitate "Girl Talk" is priceless in a world that many of our youth are not talking to mentors or adults in their lives. Teh program is simple yet effective. Some girls traveled last year out of Texas for the first time in their lives. And they did it with great supervision, and a group of girls destined not to be left behind! The only thing that would make this organization much better is the ability to serve many more girls. I highly reccommend this organization for anyone who has a young girl they want connected with good people who will help encourage them to reach their personal and professional goals.

The girls at our church who particpate in it. I have seen the changes in their demeanor and talk. Also assisted in one of their first events as a commentator. A fashion show for the girls was a great end to a wonderful weekend. All of them were dressed, hair done and ready to walk the runway. Prior to, many seemed upser at the world. It was a world of difference looking into their eyes and seeing the pride and joy as they walked the runway. Even those with parents incarcerated, walked tall!

Increase it! They really need land and a facility to be able to give long term assistance for some of the girls who really have no support system at home. It would be great to see Elizabeth Haven become just that.. a haven.

I had a phenomenal experience working with Elizabeth Haven. When I came in, I was ready and willing to help as a camp counselor, however, not only did I have a chance to help the girls, they also helped me. Their appreciation for the program is something that will stay with me for a lifetime. I truly believe that this camp has impacted and will continue to impact these girls in ways that will be seen in years to come!

I have seen some of these girls prior to going to the camp deal with feelings of insecurity, self-esteem, etc., however after the camp, these issues have drastically diminished and in most cases completely disappear. Not only are we a camp counselor for the summer camp, but we follow up and keep in touch with the girls for mentoring!

I would find a way to provide more funds to the organization so that they could do more!

Our non-profit Swan Center Outreach Inc. (http://www.swancenter.org)
Partnered with Elizabeth Haven Community Projects last summer when we hosted a Leadership Development program for a group of 25 young girls that were brought to us by Elizabeth Haven.

We were amazed and impressed
with the work that Victoria is doing with these young women especially in their ability to communicate what they had going on and having the ability to address the personal issues head-on that they were dealing with.

We feel the work that Elizabeth Haven is doing to help these young women at risk is invaluable, because it empowers them to take control of their lives and to invent what they want.

Having the opportunity to interact with these young women in an experiential outdoor learning environment gave me first hand experience of how Elizabeth Haven is helping these girls.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I would make it larger with branch organizations in other cities so that more young girls at risk could be helped
