I joined the Ecosa Institute Staff as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in 2011. I continue to volunteer at the Institute and enjoy the work we do. Ecosa brings creative people together to work on design solutions to ecological issues effecting local communities, regions and the planet. It is always a pleasure to see the good work that Ecosa produces!

The Ecosa Institute was an amazing experience. I cannot recommend the program enough. It was a powerful catalyst in my life. I learned so much in a short amount of time, and worked with projects that have made a difference in the world already. I continue to maintain relationships gained through the experience and am considering returning for the Ecosa Plus Program sometime in the future.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my relationship to the world at large.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

taking the knowledge gained and relating it to my current projects and relationships.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

high caliber individuals that continue to inspire me.

This experience really changed my life. I feel very connected with the alternative/ecological design world. My professor, Antony Brown, especially inspired me through his knowledge, background and positive energy. I would do this program again in a hot minute.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

design, fine art, camping, self-growth, aboriginal living skills, dancing, and adventure.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

implement a permaculture project in the backyard of Whipple street. And also find ways to raise the funding.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the memories of Tony smiling and laughing. The professionals that I am now acquainted with all over the country.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

life-changing friends of the inspiring variety.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the paradigms that restrict design to a culture of mass waste and conspicuous consumerism. Ecosa could create ecologically design programs everywhere and the green drinks would be flowing in celebration.

Ways to make it better...

I could afford to go back right now.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

sadly a lack of funding. Although they are amazingly creative and do find ways to exchange work for knowledge.

One thing I'd also say is that...

ECOSA = LOVE

I cannot say enough positive things about Ecosa to convey the worth of the education I received during my time in the program. I built a more holistic understanding of sustainability and how we might achieve it during my time at the institute than in my four years as an environmental studies major at a large university. Ecosa is committed to true, deep green solutions that really get at the root of the issue and change it for the better. Their non-linear approach to education that is heavily experiential engages all five of your senses to understand our current dilemma. With an understanding of the problems at hand Ecosa then teaches you to literally think differently when crafting solutions so to break free of our problematic paradigms of the present. In a intimate setting the program provides the opportunity to rub elbows with the pioneers and rising stars of the sustainable design field such as Sim Van der Ryn, Pliny Fisk, David Orr and Steve Badanes to name only a few. I would highly recommend the Ecosa experience to anyone who wants to make an impactful change for a better future, no matter your field of emphasis.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

How I conceptualize our current environmental problems and how we might conceivably go about solving them through better design.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The non-linear experiential approach to learning that is underutilized in the more traditional academic settings.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Committed to the cause and are involved in the work because it is their passion.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

WOW...do so much! They are currently operating on a very limited budget yet still changing lives. With 10 million bucks they could greatly increase their outreach and turn more of their great ideas and designs into tangible realities.
