I called this organization to volunteer my time and was rudely cut off by one of their employees, Art Edelstein. Before I even had a chance to offer any help I was cut off because "he was too busy" and they aren't looking into "doing anything new". Far from what I expected since I have volunteered with many npo's before and am usually welcomed and thanked for my help rather than turned away. I wonder what they are doing that they are too busy to take a phone call from a donor/volunteer who wants to help out?

I volunteered with this organization I have nothing but good things to say. Despite the many setbacks we faced during Earth Day 2012--ending with a nor'easter on the National Mall--EDN held together and still put on a good show. We were vindicated by the positive press we received.

I have dealt with this organization the past year, and would never recommend this organization to a potential volunteer, staff member, or donor. The senior staff proved shockingly bad in their use of resources and leadership, and it seemed that they abuse their employees. They did have a few good staff members running programs and campaigns, but I saw these individuals quit the organization or be fired. Their financial practices are not solvent at all and large dollar amounts are wasted on personal expenses of senior staff and poor management. They hired young directors who have little experience and are very inept are their positions in order to make their leadership look viable. Poor poor poor leadership from the president and coo. Very disappointing. I will never work with them again, and will advise all fellow organizations to steer away from a partnership with them. Such a misuse of my organization's time.

This organization is amongst the worst I have ever dealt with in my career. I say this after having worked with the senior staff, all of whom display incompetence of environmental issues, disrespect towards the vision of the organization they serve as well as their clients. The treatment of junior staff is shameful, and the general office environment appears toxic. I personally witnessed junior staff bearing much of the intellectual and managerial burden, while senior staff regularly seemed pay little attention. The financial situation deserves an audit by the IRS, and the actions of leadership need to be checked by the board. I would never recommend this organization to a client, donor, or job seeker.

Earth Day Network is just that. A network that helps promote and encourage Earth Day activity around the world. They have a year-round education program for teachers, hold the annual rally in Washington DC, and are promoting green jobs. All in all good stuff.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Updates via email newsletters and website.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Double its activity around the world.

Earth Day Network is terrible. They co-opt local Earth Day projects and call them their own, then slap the logos of their corporate sponsors on everything. Instead of Earth Day highlighting the great work that goes on in communities every day, Earth Day Network spends their entire budget to create an artificial celebration that overshadows the work of nonprofits that serve communities. They are disorganized and disrespectful. I will never volunteer with them again.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

dissolve the organization

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

greenwash America

Ways to make it better...

They were better organized

One thing I'd also say is that...

it's a shame that they are funded, and so many worthy nonprofits are struggling to find the money to help them pay for operations to make real change.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

One time

I have volunteered with this organization on and off for years. From mobilizing students to organizing multi-million person demonstrations, this group works hard to make sure all people value the environment and work to protect it!

In my experience, this organization is fantastic. I'm most impressed with the staff that I've had the pleasure working with. They are dedicated, intelligent, and stick to the core values of the organization. They do an incredable job of bringing technical and finicial support into my school, and classroom. They are always avaialbe, and give creative and meaningful feedback on how to best improve my project.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The implementation of our after school Green Club. Specifially the reduction of waste produced by our school, the construction and maintainece of a school garden, and the current production of a school food documentary. Additially we are currently in the process of installing solar panals on the roof of the school.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

probably not change too much.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Their flexsiblity and commitment towards my students and school.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Motivated, intelligent, experienced, and trustworthy.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Secure throusands of green jobs for high school graduates.

Ways to make it better...

We had more regular contact.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The parents and teachers that work with the students they are working with. The projects they support can only do so much, the next step is up to those deeply involved in students lives to promote a sustainable way of living.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I have learned a great deal from working with this organization. I hope they continue to support urban school in giving students the opportunity to improve their communities.

This nonprofit is very helpful. They have supported our efforts with enthusiasm. The support they provided us lead to our school receiving the certified energy audit we have sought for three years. They were able to motivate the shakers and doers in our state capital to provide this service to us, a fellow nonprofit.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

many ways. They are the best!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the encouragement, motivation, and support to continue our efforts.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The support staff I have worked with is the BEST! They were very knowledgeable, supportive and always willing to help.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

provide financing for solar panels for every private school which will not be covered by government loans or programs to install solar providing every school in this country the opportunity to provide GREEN energy and save over $5,00 annually.

Ways to make it better...

we were selected as a demonstration site for all rural communities in this country.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Maintaining staff levels which can provide the quality service and outreach.

One thing I'd also say is that...

This organization has not demonstrated a negative attitude towards my private, nonprofit school. I really appreciate the fact that this organization looks for youth driven projects regardless of school affiliation. We are a very small rural school which operates on a tuition based funding system of under $4,000 a year.
