drumSTRONG is a great idea executed by someone with no managerial or business experience. Other than companies owned or funded by his Dad, Scott has no idea what he's doing in trying to run an organization like this. His trademark is unprotected, his financials are perpetually late. And worst of all, less than 10% of the money raised at the annual drumstrong event even counts as profit for distribution to those organizations which drumstrong is chartered to help. In short, this is an organization with declining support, declining revenue, declining impact, and badly in need of an Executive Director with a clue about what he's doing.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... Their finanancials on this site, and they suck.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the passion and energy is definitely there.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... Kind of hippie-types, who seem to enjoy the groove but know pretty much as little about business as Scott.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Find a way to spend $11 million bucks.
Ways to make it better!
  • If I had to make changes to this organization, I would… hire an Executive Director and keep Scott out of the day-to-day operations. Great founder, lousy manager.
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... Scott Swimmer himself: his lack of expertise, doing everything by the seat of his pants, refusing to delegate and trust people, and being an incredible micromanager with a control-freak attitude.

I've known Scott Swimmer, the founder of drumSTRONG, for a while now, and this wonderful organization is a testament of how anyone can identify a need and act upon it to make a change in our society. Scott eats, sleeps, and breathes DrumsForCures, working with great desire to raise funds to support cancer research and general awareness, especially within the community. More importantly, funds raised stay primarily in the community and support local initiatives. Held in May each year, drumSTRONG is a sight to behold - a marathon drumming event that exceeds 24 hours (2008 went for 27 hours). The people who take part are just as caring and wonderful as Scott.

The Great!
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... the atmosphere and laid back attitude of those involved. Cancer is a serious issue, but that doesn't mean you can't have fun raising awareness.
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... enthusiastic, caring, and genuinely GOOD people.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... expand and provide more matching funds to its various recipiants
Ways to make it better!
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... "competition" from other national cancer-related charities. The drawback is that any donors won't get to see their dollars at work in their community as much as a charity that supports only local initiatives.

DrumsForCures: drumSTRONG This is a great organization and it's founder Scott Swimmer works tirelessly ongoing to help raise funds to support cancer research and general awareness to the problem of the huge number of people who suffer from this terrible disease. The major event that they hold in May of each year is just a wonderful and heart moving experience. It is a marathon drumming event that this past year went for 27 hours. The people who take part are caring and wonderful souls.

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... Iv've seen the results of this organizations efforts in the great awareness that is apparent as a result of the drumSTRONG event.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The most enjoyable experience with this organization is when we give Reiki during the drumming and the people experience not only the energy from the Reiki session but the enhancement of the energy and healing because of the drums in the background.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Do wonders!
Ways to make it better!
  • My experience would have been better if... My experience would have been better if it had not rained.

OK, I know, This could be viewed as a bit biased... I built it; it's my baby; it's my passion; it's my life; and all that... but it's not about me. DrumsForCures :: drumSTRONG works for and because of you. Everybody contributes and everybody benefits. Collaboratively sharing resources, talents and energy. The rhythm element exemplifies and drives the basic, simple beauty of individual and team participation in a project that soundly and positively impacts the health complexion of our communities. Drumming to BEAT cancer! Yeah, I'm thrilled that it works on so many levels; that so many dig it and want to keep the rhythm in motion to bring down the 'c' monster, support survivorship and so many good cancer health initiatives. From local Interest and benefits to the growing global involvement, we're fulfilling our potential good and having fun doing it. Great combination!

The Great!
  • I've seen the results of this organization in... individual's satisfaction in participating in a most unique and all-embracing charity organization and in the opportunity to join forces in a non-competitive fashion with many. Truly engaging all ages, wages and stages of health.
  • What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is... The levels of satisfaction that participants derive from the simple concept of drumming to BEAT cancer. Doing it for the love of it. Drumming makes everybody smile. It sets something positive in motion that works beyond measure Reward is also immeasurable
  • The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were... whole-heartedly engaged, caring, committed and compassionate. Willing to give of themselves and smile through challenges.
  • If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could... Help a whole lotta people! All funds are disbursed to local, national and global cancer initiatives. DrumsForCures, inc. is a 100% volunteer staff and carefully chooses cancer initiatives and educational programs that best benefit the total population.
Ways to make it better!
  • If I had to make changes to this organization, I would… I do, and I will...
  • In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are... beyond control... inclimate weather.
  • One thing I'd also say is that... The directors are totally committed to 'playing nice' with anybody willing to share their missions and will go to the ends of the planet to make it a healthier, happier place.
