The mission of dress for success charlotte is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and life.
Providing interview-appropriate clothing, accessories, and personal care products to women as they attempt to enter the workforce. Once they obtain employment, providing a working wardrobe of up to five more outfits. Clothing and accessories were provided to 778 clients during 2013. The income and expenses for this program are all in-kind donations and expenses.
key career retention and career advancement programs to promote and sustain the economic well being of clients include: professional women's group(pwg): operated as a professional association, the pwg strives to teach underserved women about workplace communication, corporate culture, financial literacy and wealth building, advancement of career skills, work/life balance, and more. There were 34 active members during 2014. Career center: open 25 hours per week, a client can use this free resource on her own or schedule a private appointment to meet with a hr professional to learn: internet, email, and social media as job search tools; job placement software; resume and cover-letter; interview preparation; and setting up an email account to apply online. The center has educational and financial literacy materials, job search books and magazines, clippings of relevant articles, lists of important web sites, and job postings. The number of women who utilized the career center in 2014 was 239. Financial literacy: designed as a response to the need of our women for financial education. The curriculum was developed with national endowment for financial literacy and provides education on such topics as basic banking, budgeting, credit mgmt, debt, investment, retirement, taxes, workplace benefits and the government and your money. Going places network: helps unemployed and under-employed clients gain career skills, learn how to utilize job search resources, and build confidence. This program was launched in april 2011. In 2014, 63 women participated in the going places program. Professional development workshops: various workforce development topics such as: "are you job ready" and "interviewing 101" and are offered by various hr partners.
