I presented "CRAVE Your Goals!" to the professional women's group and was impressed by their attention, enthusiasm, mutual support and commitment to put these empowering principles into practice.

Dress for Success Atlanta has a great mission and one that I am happy to support. Helping underprivileged women find jobs and get dressed for success is such a powerful cause and DFSA is the best! As an organization they are very organized and will do what it takes to fundraise and find the resources necessary to support their mission. The only thing that I feel would help the organization to be better would be to use more outside advertising for events to gain awareness. More people would come if they were using more than just facebook, twitter and the website.

It is such an honor to know that the work I do will directly affect women in my hometown that don't have the means necessary to obtain not only a job, but i rewarding, successful career!

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Outside marketing. Spend more time/effort on this area to get more people to the events to raise more money!

As a volunteer with DFS-A, I have the opportunity to spend my time behind the scenes sorting donations, or assisting with a job fair. The most emotionally rewarding role is working directly with clients to assist them with career counseling, doing mock job interviews, and reviewing their resumes, or helping to create one. The most fun is the role of Career Image Consultant. The time spent helping women select an outfit for a job interview is SO rewarding. Most of the clients have never worn a suit. Many don't want to try a suit, or "get all dressed up". But when they look in the mirror, and see a new empowered woman looking back at them...it is AMAZING. Their self esteem is improved beyond measure. They are more confident and feel good about their future prospects. It is truly transforming.

Being part of the new Career Counseling Center,& seeing the impact it has on the overall attitude of the clients is rewarding. This serves the clients' needs as they seek a job to become self-sufficient. Working with the other volunteers & staff is a joy.

Donating suits was my first experiene with Dress for Success. Then I had the wonderful experience of seeing those suits in the DFS showroom and received training as a personal shopper. It was a great experience -- not only sharing in the excitment of helping women shop but in hearing their eagerness to do well at the job interview that was upcoming. There is nothing more powerful than seeing a women achieve self-sufficiency and Dress for success gives them the tools to make that happen. Their mission is dead on; their execution well-organized and supportive and your experiences always leave you feeling like your time and effort is well spent and appreciated.

Dress for Success has made a significant difference in the lives of many young women in Atlanta. They have enabled women to dress appropriately for an interview, and also have some clothing to start work. It is amazing how much difference this makes in helping women find employment. The organization is excellent and well-run, and it truly empowers women.

After retirement, I decided that I wanted to volunteer for Dress for Success Atlanta(DFSA) on a regular basis. With other women I had been a part of the Atlanta organization that was DFSA forerunner, but had to step back in order to devote the needed time to my career in education. I have been giving my time on a weekly basis for the last twenty months. Currently I work one day a week as Career Image Consultant helping women find appropriate interview apparel as well as providing them with the confidence to believe in themselves. As a member of the Board of Directors, I try to bring the voice of the volunteer as well as the organizational skills I used in my previous career.

Seeing the faces of the women dressed in professional attire and looking at themselves in the mirror is so rewarding. I remember dressing a mother and daughter one day neither of whom had ever owned or ever worn a suit. The two were so happy!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

As a volunteer, I have direct contact with the clients that the organization is trying to help.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The limited staff give unselfishly of their time and talents. The volunteers come from a variety of ethnicities and economical status, but all have the same mission of helping disadvantaged women become self-sustaining.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Better meet its mission and bring together its partner organizations in a more coordinated and integrated manner.

Dress for Success is a wonderful agency helping to empower women with clothing, direction and guidance, and most importantly, knowledge. I am amazed at the dedication of the Board of Directors for DFS-Atlanta. They work tirelessly, while most of them are maintaining and growing their own careers. This is truly a "working Board." They truly have a heart to help women who are in need. Even though I don't work directly with the clients, I love hearing and reading the wonderful experiences of the clients and how DFS has assisted them.
