After nearly 10 years in an abusive marriage, I left my home (at the advice of my counselor at Renew). I cannot even begin to tell you what it felt like to leave my home. Even more so, what it felt like that first night in the shelter to know that I was safe. I spent 5 months at the shelter due to court procedings and rulings. During this time, I recieved group and individual counseling. The staff became like family to my girls and I. When I first got there, I didn't believe in myself at all. Each of the staff members believed in me. They saw in me what I couldn't find in myself. With the help of counseling and support, I started to find myself and believe in myself. When I was able to leave the shelter, they helped with toiletries as well as food. They also gave me a gift card from furnishing a fresh start to purchase items for my home. I am still in counseling at renew. It has been two years since I left my home. Not a day goes by that I don't feel blessed by all they did for me. I am convinced that without renew and DVPI I would not be where I am today.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my daily life. In DVPI, I have found myself and the strength to move forward. I am learning to believe in myself. I am finding my way.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

they give without expecting anything in return.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

some of the most caring people I have ever met. They changed me and my world...so much so that I cried when I left and missed them terribly.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the lives of women like me....one person at a time.

As current president of the Board of Trustees, I am empowered every month as we host a DVPI team member to share their life work. From their incredible stories of hope and second chances, I work to encourage our volunteer board members to work to secure additional funding and community support to make sure the valuable skills of our staff can be connected with women and families in need of counseling, shelter, support and love to build healthy relationships in the future.

I know first-hand that our DVPI team has successfully saved the lives of women and their families from domestic violence abuse by helping them develop escape plans to move them from broken, violent homes to safety within our shelter's loving walls.

In addition to having a wonderful mission, this program has caring and committed staff members. They work efficiently and effectively to serve their clients in the most challenging of circumstances. They engage in community education campaigns working to prevent family violence, and they are reliable community collaborators.

I have worked with Domestic Violence Project for the last 4 years. This is a great organization and I am honored to be a part of this group. I am a huge advocate of what the organization is currently doing as well as their plans for the future.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the magnitude of the lives it touches.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

kind and very helpful. Each of the ladies is very excited for their organization.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build another facility.

Ways to make it better...

none

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

funding in the future.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Melissa Pearce has done a wonderful job in her new role.

I began my involvement with the Domestic Violence Project, Inc. (DVPI) in June, 2008 as an Advisory Board Member. I have been extremely impressed with the organizational goals that are set and the attainment of those goals. The organization works to support and empower women and is critical in to the Stark County Area. I have been involved in several events and believe that DVPI is a great asset to the local community. I have seen the gratitude from the clients at the center and found that volunteering at DVPI is very rewarding knowing they are helping the community and allowing me to help in some small way as well! I believe strongly in DVPI's mission and values. That is why I have supported this great non-profit, and will continue to do so in the years to come.

I began my involvement with the Domestic Violence Project, Inc. (DVPI) in November of 2008 as an Advisory Board Member. I have been extremely impressed with the continuous attainment of the organization's goals. To quote Jennifer Gipp, Director, Marketing & Development for DVPI, "The work we do to support and empower women is critical in today’s society. •Gain recognition and improve community loyalty •Reach new partners and retain loyal donors •Strengthen communication for use in internal & external situations" I have been involved with a number of events to assist with reaching these goals, and believe this to be of great strength to the local community. I believe strongly in DVPI's mission and values. That is why I have supported this great non-profit, and will continue to do so in the years to come. Robert D. Blanc, MBA AultCare Corporation
