Issues: Homeless & Housing, Human Services

Location: 18820 Woodward Avenue Suite 101 Detroit MI 48203 USA

Mission: The Do Foundation holds the essential belief that ALL PEOPLE, no matter their walk of life, are entitled to Dignity, Respect and the Opportunity to realize or regain a life of self-sufficiency through community involvement and assistance, as opposed to living in an unsheltered state of homelessness. The Mission of the DO Foundation (DOF) is to connect directly with the homeless for a personal account of their immediate needs, and to generate community support in conjunction with implementing cost-effective programs to aid & assist them with meeting those needs. Homelessness is indiscriminate. Likewise, the DO Foundation will remain open to the needs of those who are homeless, whether their state of homelessness is to due to financial hardship, mental health related issues, addiction, flight from abusive circumstances, or lack of general support, as often is the case with Veterans and former inmates transitioning back into the community.
Results: DO Foundation has aided in helping thousands of people across the country in providing for their immediate needs, food, a warm place to stay, essentials needed for the weather and much much more.
Target demographics: low-income, homeless children, adults, families, homeless vets and former prisoners, recently released teens from foster care, prevention
Geographic areas served: National Organizaition
Programs: PROGRAMS AND SERVICES INTAKE & ASSESSMENT This is the first step an individual takes under the umbrella of DO Foundation (DOF) programs & services – your introduction to what we offer and how we can help. This process includes eligibility screening procedures & protocols to ensure that the appropriate referrals are made and any enrollment procedures result in individuals and/or families maximize their opportunity to receive aid and/or services that they are entitled to, or can benefit from. Intake & Assessment is designed to ensure that DOF personnel properly address an individual and their specific needs. It will also streamline the aid process, thereby eliminating redundancy and helping to alleviate an already stressful situation. REFERRAL There are two types of Referrals, Immediate and Long Term. “Immediate Referrals” are those of an emergent nature, such as Emergency shelters, Medical or Mental Health, Prevention, and Drug & Alcohol addiction. “Long Term” refers to situations of a less than emergent nature, such as Transitional Housing, Outreach, Job Placement, Education & Awareness, and Financial Planning. Based on the initial assessment, each person will work with one of our qualified Referral Agents (RA), who will contact the applicable facilities on behalf of the individual. These facilities may include, (but are not limited to): drug & alcohol clinics or rehabilitation centers, emergency shelters for immediate housing needs, medical or mental health facilities, job placement agencies and organizations, and food banks. The RA will make initial contact, then direct & guide the individual to the appropriate person within the contacted establishment. PREVENTION DOF’s Prevention Services address “Crisis Management”. In other words, you have a critical need, and we have an immediate solution. This program is for individuals who require immediate assistance to prevent loss of housing. Such services may include, but are not limited to: referral to organizations (such as Thaw or United Way) to help avert utility shut off, contacting a leasing office to avoid eviction. If all efforts fail, DO Foundation can, and may, provide (on a limited basis) “on the spot” emergency assistance for eviction prevention. {However, there are requirements for receiving this type of aid that will be thoroughly discussed at the time when, and if, this becomes necessary}. OUTREACH Outreach (“DOF style”) tends to some of the immediate needs of a homeless individual. We accomplish this by “hitting the streets for the homeless”. Our volunteers take clothing items, DO Bags, a warm & friendly disposition and the desire to help. There is also an all access Resource Center where the homeless can come in out of the cold, make telephone calls, wash their clothes, get a hot shower, and have a bit of much needed “privacy”. Our Outreach services will also aid individuals in need of obtaining personal ID’s and/or acquiring the necessary documentation for other potential programs and/or organizations from which they can benefit. TRANSITIONAL HOUSING DOF’s Transitional Housing program will help coordinate admission into supportive housing that is both affordable and appropriate for the delivery of supportive services to individuals and/or families; such as Welfare, Food Stamps, WIC and general state or federal aid. EDUCATION & AWARENESS Our Education & Awareness programs are designed to enlighten individuals on Personal Responsibility, and are centered around Prevention – not only understanding HOW you got where you are, but how to prevent future recurrence once you’ve overcome it. We also provide hands on training in financial literacy and financial planning. We will guide you through areas from basic banking, to budgeting & strategies of long term success. Our goal is to help you achieve financial responsibility and personal financial success. When it’s raining and you don’t have an overcoat, step under the DO umbrella .. we’ll help to keep you dry!

The DO Foundation is an organization that is dedicated particularly to giving homeless individuals hope by supplying their immediate needs. The workers of the DO Foundation go "to the streets" to communicate directly with homeless individuals to assess, then meet these needs. The founder, Brian O'Neal; Co-founder, Kelly Adolph and a myriad of hardworking volunteers work tirelessly to abolish homelessness in and around the Detroit area. "Team DO" of The DO Foundation also spreads awareness to across the country about the misconceptions that many have regarding homeless individuals. I have become more sensitive to the needs of homeless individuals through the knowledge that I have received from the DO Foundation. I am honored to be a part of such an amazing group of individuals who truly care about the people they serve. Even after several hardships befell the organization, the response is always the same, "The Mission must continue". I salute the DO Foundation for their hard work and dedication. They are truly a top rated Non Profit in my eyes. For more information about the DO Foundation or to donate, please go to www.dofoundation.net

I initially started supporting the DO Foundation (DOF), because of its founder Brian O'Neal. He has a passion for helping those in need. It gives me great pleasure to know that there is an organization that is truly interested in helping those in need. The DOF's commitment in helping end homelessness can set a standard that other organizations can follow, by going in the communities where help is needed; be visible and talk to individuals to determine their need and just show people that you genuinely care. Mr. O’Neal not only goes into the areas where the help is needed, but he also informs DOF supporters of the need that is greatly among us. That's why I will continue to support Brian O’Neal and the DOF.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I wouldn't make any changes, but I would love to see this organization become a nationwide organization.

I truly believe in this charity, I love what the Do Foundation stands for. I will do anything I can to help this foundation succeed at its mission. I ve been homeless once and so this cause is very dear to my heart. The founder Brian O Neal is a great person and humanitarian. He actually live as a homeless man himself for two week so that he would personally know what it was like. He gives his celebrity status and his time to make this cause a great one. He is honest and dedicated to what he believes in...... I do too..!

I love the DO Foundation and what they do to combat and end homelessness! They inspire me so. They don't just talk the talk. They walk the walk and DO for others in need. Brian O'Neal the founder along with Kellly Adolph, co-founder go out of their way to help others. Behind the scene are other strong warriors too contributing with paperwork, phone calls and long hours! All playing a KEY PART!! Brian also donates his shows to help others and made a song "Dreams In Color" which is AWESOME!! I believe we are here on earth to help one another especially those in need. The DO Foundation prepares DO Bags, through donated funds, with essential items for those in need to survive with for the day! They go out in full force with helping others. Sending out awareness to all who will listen in hopes that they will feel the need to help others. The Documentaries and videos are straight and to the point! The Cause is GREAT and many are joining it. Its All About HUMANS HELPING HUMANS!! Something this great can't go unnoticed! It inspires me to go out and DO! I give to the DO Foundation and to those in my local area! I feel good when I go out and help others! You don't have to be rich to contribute. A smile, a hug or a conversation to those in need goes a long way! Become a team member www.dofoundation.net I love the website! There's Room For Many OR More!!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I haven't been to Detroit or to the DO Foundation but that doesn't mean I won't be able to. I look forward to going out with the DO Foundation team and distribute DO Bags or clothes or whatever is needed at the time.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Roll up my sleeves and help out by walking the streets with the DO Foundation and give to those in need.
