Diabetes Partnership Cleveland Is where a group of women meet to learn from each other’s diabetic experiences as well as from monthly speakers who come with various topics to stimulate and get us going toward better health habits and lifestyle changes. Topics like: releasing stress, relaxation, how to pick the best foods, reading food labels, choosing good foods when dining out, which ingredients to be aware of, how to modify meals, and food substitutions. Topics are discussed that you know but have forgotten and it is good to bring them back to life. The total experience keeps you in check and helps with your own specific goal setting. Learning is ongoing and rewarding.
Through classes from this group I had the opportunity to become a diabetic ambassador. I’ve attended several workshops and health fairs to inform people of the problems of becoming a diabetic, as well as how to handle being a diabetic, the different types of diabetics, and informing them of the symptoms, what questions to ask their doctors and how to read and understand their diabetic test results, and the importance of exercise and food choices.
They are sponsoring another class: Take Charge of Your Health that I am excited to attend, it’s a chronic Disease Self-Management program which help you control your chronic disease rather than letting it control you.
I’m so glad I became a part of diabetes Partnership Cleveland. I enjoy talking to people about diabetes also learning from them as well.

Diabetes Partnership Cleveland has group for women with diabetes called Dive Empowerment Group that meets every second Saturday of the month. This group has taught me so much about managing my diabetes. I have learned nutritional facts, and about carb counting and how many carbs per meal I can have. I have learned how and when to check my blood glucose with my meter. I have learned how to help with diabetes complications such as foot or eye problems. The group is also a support group with the members encouraging each other so that we do not get depressed. We also learn crafts to keep us happy. For instance, we learned to make bracelets for our medic alert metals. One a year we have a pitty party just to voice our depressing moments because of our chronic illness which realy has helped me cope with the desease. I have learned so much from this group than I every learned from my doctor. This group has enriched my life tremendously!
