Desert Sounds is a nonprofit arts organization based in Tempe, Arizona serving the needs of low income residents in the Phoenix area. They provide free instruments to students who would like to join band or orchestra in their schools but cannot afford to get their own instrument. I teach orchestra in an area where many students fit this profile. These students turn to Desert Sounds to get an instrument to use for the school year. After receiving an instrument from Desert Sounds, they come to orchestra with a huge smile on their faces. They are so excited to get their own instrument! They are responsible and take care of their instruments throughout the whole school year. These students are thankful for the services they receive from Desert Sounds. I want to thank the owner and operator of this organization for the services given to my students. Thank you, Desert Sounds!

From the onset, Desert Sounds Performing Arts has been a "grass roots" organization of parents that have sought funding resources to put instruments in the hands of students that wouldn't be able to participate in Band or String programs otherwise.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the amazement on students' and parents' faces as they received instruments to use as they have the opportunity to learn in their school band and string programs.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

observing the progress and joy of my 5th grade band student as she practices and continues to master skills and enjoy her Vito clarinet.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

very generous with their time and talents. Sincere in their desire to help students that have a desire to learn how to play an instrument.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Purchase a lot more instruments for a lot more students to use in their school's instrumental music program.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

One time
