Before I became a board member of DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, I was always so impressed by the work Brenda and her team were doing in DC to stem one of DC's biggest problems. They are providing relevant, current information to teens about how to protect themselves both physically and emotionally from the impact of teen pregnancy. I was thrilled last year to go on the board and help the organization to launch a series of edgy ads aimed to provoking teens into thinking about teen pregnancy from the baby's perspective. We conducted focus groups across the city and tailored our messaging based on the instructive feedback we received from teens. DC Campaign is doing incredible work to help DC teens and our community as a whole. I'm proud to serve on their board.

DC Campaign is the only organization in the area that I am aware of that is dedicated to cutting teen pregnancy. They continuously partner with various schools and churches to get the word out to teens regarding the prevention of pregnancy. I highly recommend DC Campaign if you plan to have a forum regarding preventing teen pregnancy.

The DC Campaign has been a leader in DC pregnancy prevention efforts for over ten years. They have encouraged and facilitated different teen pregnancy prevention organizations working in a more collaborative manner to acheive the common goal. The Campaign consistently provides important information regarding teen pregnancy resources, projects, advocay efforts, and scholarship to a host of youth serving agencies. This information makes it easier for us to support our youth in appropriate ways. The "Roundtable" discussions hosted by the DC Campaign are always very informative and thought provoking. They also provide excellent networking opportunities to meet other professionals in the field.

The recent "Roundtable" about the workings of the adolescent brain was very interesting and helped inform my approach to working with youth. It was extremely useful to learn the capacities of adolescent thinking so that I can better tailor my work with the youth to meet their developmental needs.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Get them more money so that they can facilitate more networking and collaboration meeting among the city's teen pregnancy prevention providers.

The DC Campaign has led the charge to decrease teen pregnancy in Washington DC. They are leaders in the field--advocating for policy changes that improve the lives of young people, providing up to date information for policy makers and providers, educating the community and bringing together stakeholders. I highly recommend this agency.

The DC Campaign office has been very effective in keeping teen pregnancy prevention efforts alive in the community. Their efforts at information sharing on minor's reproductive medical rights, emergency contraception and contraceptive access. I attended one of their provider in-services on teen pregnancy given in conjunction with Chartered Health and appreciated their excellent presentation. The very dynamic executive director and their committed Board members have made a significant impact in DC.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Assisting in the promotion of emergency contraception availability in DC and in community education on Teen Pregnancy Prevention every May in DC Public and Charter schools. They have also promoted awareness of minor medical rights in DC.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Encourage the Board to continue their committment to the youth of DC.

I find the information, data and most importantly explanations of the information provided by DC Campaign to be invaluable. They make using their information easy. DC Campaign also works hard to make hard-to-find data available to the public--and not just when asked, but up front on their web site.

I can't imagine doing budget and public policy advocacy without DC Campaign and the varied information they provide. They make my job easier and make me look good. Seriously, they make me more effective.

There is no quicker way to eliminate poverty in the District of Columbia than focusing on teen pregnancy prevention. DC Campaign is an organization that is able to navigate the complexities of the District and advocate for comprehensive, timely real change for teens.

I have admired the DC Campaign for more than a decade, as it successfully took on one of the most serious challenges facing young people in DC. It figured out how to support teens in making positive choices, their families in more effective communication, and schools and clinics in providing the resources teens need. Their track record is outstanding.

Give them a stable source of money for future planning.

The DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy has been tireless in its effort to reduce the teen pregnancy rate in DC. One of the many wonderful aspects of this organization, besides the exceptional leadership, is the meaningful involvement of youth in the development and implementation of programs and services that are for and about them.
