As a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of dance in Houston, DSH is an invaluable resource. It is the only such organization offering numerous services to the Houston dance community. DSH provides a centralized location listing all events, opportunities, reviews, and performances benefiting dancers, choreographers, students, and patrons alike.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

... many ways. As a performing artist, DSH has listed the many performances I've taken part in. As a choreographer, DSH has helped with distribution of promotional materials and listed my projects, increasing awareness, visibility, and attendance exponentially. I also teach at the University of Houston. DSH provides a website that stores dance reviews of local performances and a central place that lists dance events and opportunities for me to share with dance students.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Increase the number of staff members to extend services.

Dance Source Houston is a asset to the Houston arts community. They're an incredible resource for all forms of dance in and around greater Houston. Not only do they inform the general public of upcoming shows and opportunities, they also service artists by letting them know of auditions and master classes. They post interesting articles, press releases, and expand your connections to not just dance, but to many fields of art (performing, visual, etc).

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

new festivals/shows organized by DSH. I've seen an increased awareness in the arts community in terms of shows coming through and audience attendance. They get the word out and create a buzz.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

ask that they sponsor more shows. the ones that i've seen have been a great success. please host more.

I recently moved to Houston. It is so helpful to know were to go to see what is happening in the dance community. This city is sprawling and it is hard to know where to go for class, performances, and rehearsal space. Thank you for all you do!

Dance Source Houston serves as an inovative clearing house for all things dance in our community. Not a small task in a large city like Houston. You know you can rely on them for up to the minute information for performances, auditions, classes and news in the dance community. Without this organization the common thread through Houston dance will be gone.

Dance Source Houston has revolutionized the dance scene hear. I feel so connected to everything that's going on now. The weekly e-newsletter makes it so easy to spread the word about auditions, performances and shows...and to keep up with what everyone else is doing, too. The adminstrative assistance offered to small dance companies through a reasonably priced membership is outstandingly helpful. I love Dance Source Houston!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help dance in Houston to thrive even more! It is an arts service organization dedicated to dance in Houston, so it could provide even more help to the small dance companies, which in turn stimulate people's hearts, minds, souls, bodies...and the economy!

I love this resource because it keeps me abreast of local area festivals and choreographic opportunities. I do not live in Houston and I wish there was and organization like this that covered my area of Texas!

I volunteer with Dance Source Houston, and they are invaluable in my life. I get to meet wonderful people who love dance; I get to support dance as a medium in Houston; I get to let others know about this marvelous volunteering opportunity + I get to enjoy some of the most innovative + pioneering choreographers + companies contributing to the field of dance today.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing how many people sign up to become volunteers when I man the table at events.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

make sure there are Dance Cards always available at the table as well as in the programs. [They are not usually available at the table when we volunteer, yet we were told this is the most important piece of information.]

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the incredible performances I have gotten to attend + letting dance-lovers know - especially high school students looking for unique ways to fulfill their community-service credit requirements - about the volunteering opportunity.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

highly dedicated.

Ways to make it better...

there were more clarity on how our volunteer tickets are filed with Will Call at various dance performances. [Our tickets couldn't be found a couple of times.]

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

clarity on details + accessibility during emergencies.

Dance Source Houston is an important resource for the entire city. It offers a one stop listing of one of the major cultural segments of our city. Without their newsletter it would be difficult or impossible to follow the Houston Dance scene. Bravo!...Brava!
