We adopted our puppy from D & R last Thursday. Karen was very helpful and spent her day off helping us adopt our puppy. The process was easy and fun. The hardest part was choosing our adorable puppy.
I contacted D&R Rescue about a cute little dog I found on petfinder. His name is Doogie so i contacted Karen to see if it would be a good fit. She responded quickly to the many questions I had and helped me with everything. Doogie came to us with all shots and a microchip. He came with his own bag of toys and food. It was so nice to have so many expenses covered by these people who care so much. Doogie loves his new home and his new people. We appreciate everything Karen did to help us get the this moment!
We found our sweet Millie (then Cora) on Petfinder. We were very interested in adopting her, but live 5 hours away. She was already scheduled for an adoption event, so Karen had her friend adopt her for us and foster her for the week. She really went above and beyond for us. We can tell that she truly has the dogs' best interest at heart and is invested in helping the animals who cannot help themselves. It was such a smooth experience for us, and we would recommend this rescue to anyone.
I adopted Fritz, a Shiu tzu, on April 2, 2016. I saw his picture on Petfinder. Karen replied very quickly that she was sorry but he had already been adopted a couple days prior. She mentioned she would notify me if the adoption didn't work out. Fortunately for me, Fritz became available again. He is a wonderful dog! He was current on all vaccines, had recently been groomed, and came with a collar, leash and a toy. Karen was so helpful. We routinely keep in contact. She genuinely cares about the dogs she places in new homes. This is my second adoption from Karen. I also adopted a Pomeranian puppy in September 2013. Cooper is also a wonderful dog. He had some health issues at the time of the adoption. Karen made sure he was on the proper meds and that I was aware of his needs. I'm pleased to say that Cooper had no health issues today and is completely healthy. I highly recommend this rescue. The dogs are very well cared for. Karen is very knowledgeable about dogs and is very helpful. As an added bonus,Karen even made sure I received several bags of food and coupons from Petsmart. My family is so thankful for D & R Rescue.
I searched for several months to find the right puppy for me. I am disabled and have MS but living alone became well....lonely. I saw Grace's photo and read her story about her mom being dropped off because she didn't want to deal with puppies. (to each their own). This was the miracle I had been waiting for! I immediately contacted Karen at D & R Rescue Inc. and asked about little Grace, the runt of a litter of chiweenies. It was love at first sight! Karen made the entire process effortless, micro chipped, and a big bag of goodies and coupons came right home with Grace. She never gets 10 feet away from me and gives me all the love and support I need. My hope is that one day she will be a certified emotional support dog, but we'll she how she does when she grows out of puppy stage. I AM so grateful Grace and I found each other and it's all thanks to Karen at D & R! My little family is complete.
My wife and I routinely viewed Petfinder in the hopes of finding a dog to replace our Maltese, Zoie, who had passed several months earlier. When we saw the picture of "Andy" in the D & R Rescue listing we decided to submit an application with the association. After several back and forth communications Karen informed us our adoption of "Andy" had been approved. Arrangements were made for us to travel to Terre Haute, IN, from our residence in Mid-Missouri. Karen was kind enough to meet with us on a day that suited us but not her. Upon our arrival Karen had already purchased a number of items for our new family member and prepared all the necessary paperwork. Thanks to Karen we were about to do everything necessary and return home at a decent hour.
After deciding to look into getting a small Shih Tzu mix puppy my family decided to adopt instead. I found Murphy (well Gizmo to D & R) on a Friday morning and immediately contacted Karen. What was so awesome about her is that she actually answered her phone, took time to talk with me and then when we switched to communicating via email was very responsive in a timely manner. I literally had our adoption approved that afternoon and picked him up 2 days later. The nominal fee charged is more than fair considering Murphy was completely up to date on all his vaccinations, exams, groomed, micro-chipped and came with a bag of goodies & free dog food. The process was easy & I cannot stress enough how refreshing it was to have someone who was easily accessible & didn't wait days to contact me (or not even do it which is what I found happened after several inquiries into other dogs up for adoption). She also followed up with us after a few days to see how things were going. If you're thinking of adopting a dog I highly recommend D & R Rescue!
I first contacted this organization after seeing one of their dogs on Petfinder. Karen responded to me very quickly but, unfortunately, because I live 4 hours away, I was unable to see the dog before it was adopted. When another small dog became available, Karen contacted me and let me know when I could come and see him. Let me back up a bit... she had me submit an application after I showed interest in the first dog. I was pleased with the detail the organization required from me - it showed they truly had the dog's well being at heart. After reviewing my application, she approved me within 24 hours. When we met in person, she spent sufficient time with me going over all of the paperwork and telling me everything she knew about the dog. I was extremely happy and grateful that they had made sure that the dog was neutered, checked over by the vet, vaccinated and groomed. She also supplied me with a leash, collar, toys, food and treats. This dog has been the sweetest, most well-behaved pet I have ever had and I love him to pieces! Even though this organization is 4 hours away from where I live, I would never hesitate to go to them again or recommend them. Karen has also followed up with me several times since I adopted Jack to see how things were going. I recommend D&R Rescue completely!
In December 2015 we were looking to add another Yorkie to our family. We found Karen and D&R Rescue via Perfinder. The application process was simple and Karen helped answer all of the questions we had about the process and the pup we were interested in. We made the trip from Wisconsin to Indiana to adopt Colby (formerly Ringo). Karen made the entire adoption hassle free and was incredibly professional. Colby is an amazing pup and I thank Karen and her team of fosters for taking such good care of him before he found his way to us. If you are looking to adopt, I fully endorse D&R and highly recommend them.
What can I say but I am blessed to have found Karen at D & R Rescue. I have adopted an amazing rottie and two other dogs a bassett and doxie. I have nothing but amazing things say about the rescue and the dogs that I have adopted as my fur babies. I would never think about getting a dogs anywhere else and highly recommend her and the rescue.
Max and Skip send kisses Karen!!
I would like to say how blessed we have been to have found D & R Rescue. We adopted our first rottie 12 years ago and were so pleased with the process and the assistance we had from Karen all of these years. We were adopted out Bassett Max in 1998 and they became best buddies. Our beloved Rottie Abigail was diagnosed with cancer we lost her this year and our hearts ached for ourselves and for our Bassett Max who missed her so much. When we decided to add on to our home we knew Karen was the only one we could trust to find the right match for us. The process is always very professional and we are now enjoying a new member to our family or a new baby as I like to say a doxi name Skip. I feel very lucky that I was able to find Karen and D & R Rescue she is a part of our family. We will always be grateful for everything she has done for our family and our babies We would recommend her highly.
