Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter is one of the finest shelters in the state of Penna. I consider it an honor to have served on the Board of Directors of Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter since 2000. It is the finest organization of its kind that I have ever known. The staff is skilled and very caring. The volunteers are the best--loyal and selfless. Their facility is clean and cheerful, and their dedication to their mission is strong. This organization, I'm happy to say, receives whole-hearted support from the community it serves.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The thousands of homeless animals who have been placed in loving homes.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Work tirelessly to have its mission succeed.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with people who truly care about the welfare of homeless animals, the interaction with wonderful volunteers and dedicated staff, and, of course, seeing the beautiful animals we shelter find loving homes.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

extremely kind and caring, and very skillful in the handling of the animals. exceptional in their selfless devotion to the animals.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build its new shelter debt-free, save more animals than ever before, provide a Dog Park for the community, educate more people about spay/neuter, establish a low-cost veterinary clinic for the public.

Ways to make it better...

I won the lottery and gave CVAS all the winnings.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Future growth in Franklin County, securing municipal support from all townships served, educating the public on the proper care of animals. Getting the municipalities we serve to support CVAS commensurate to the service CVAS provides.

One thing I'd also say is that...

If people are looking for a good cause to support, CVAS is it.

As a volunteer and a mom to a shelter cat I can't say enough good things about CVAS. Their staff is friendly, even when they are overwhelmed with people. They are helpful when I call in or have questions. I enjoy volunteering time and supplies to the shelter because I know they are going to put the supplies to good use and the staff is genuinely overtaxed and needs assistance. CVAS does what is best for the animals that come through their facility. That doesn't always make the public happy. However, if you are TRULY interested in the welfare of the animal as opposed to 'owning' something, then it is a non-issue. THANK YOU CVAS for our 4-legged family member, for helping me teach my child the value of community involvement and for providing a much needed service to the Franklin County area. God bless!

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The happy faces on the families that are adding a special animal to their lives.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

pull my hair out - I can't imagine taking on such a task.

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting the staff - so kind and willing to help.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

concerned about the welfare of animals that need homes.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Build the perfect new facility, hire a full-time volunteer coordinator, hire a full-time vet, enhance their public relations department, hold 'animal awareness' events for the community to educate and enlighten, buy a special transportation vehicle for the shelter, open a dog park, make improvements to their thrift store to make it more enticing.

Ways to make it better...

I had more time to do things with the shelter.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

space, staffing, funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Keeping the Petfinder list up to date is very important. When it is working properly it is a wonderful asset. When it is not - animals that have been adopted are listed and those that need adoption, their picture doesn't show up properly.

My wife and I were very pleased to come home from the shelter with our new peke named Davinchi. We wre blessed to have him in our lives for almost 5 yrs.During this past summer of 08 a pittbull came into our yard and into our screen door taking little Davinchi away. The pittbull was put down by the local police dept and our vinch was gone.My wife and I love our dogs as our children, and they know it too. When the word got out of our loss, many people were there for us but once again the wonderful people at cumberland valley were there. They all knew Davinchi and loved him like we do.I just want to send special thanks to Jamie,Megan, and Carol, and to all the great people there. Thanks for what you do.God Bless. The Mahers

CVAS is a well-run shelter with an extremely dedicated staff. They have transformed the shelter from a sad place to a shelter the public does not feel traumatized by when trying to adopt an animal.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the cleanliness and friendly atmosphere shown to prospective adopters and helpfulness of staff

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

wish the community would be more supportive

More feedback...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The attitude of the staff towards the animals

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

outstanding

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Build a new shelter and create a very necessary humane environment for animals and staff

Ways to make it better...

the Shelter could have the resources for a full-time cruelty investigator

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the need for a new shelter and the financial resources to provide the necessary services to the community

One thing I'd also say is that...

it is amazing to see how primitive and antiquated the building is
