In 1993, I moved to this area not knowing one soul so I looked for a place to volunteer. I liked the mission of this organization and started working as a volunteer driver to take folks to doctor appointments, but when they needed a receptionist I started working in the office. That' when I really learned the scope of the place. No day was ever the same: from helping a family with food or rent to organizing workers to clean up after a flood, CRRC has always been first in line when it comes to helping area residents. While their mission hasn't changed over the years, their services have and their list of accomplishments is too numerous to detail in this space. Just suffice it to say that when there's a need, CRRC is the first place folks turn to. Even when we can't help them, we point clients in the appropriate direction to receive services from other organizations. That's why "Resource" is part of the CRRC acronym.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the faces of those CRRC has helped. Clients are shown true concern and treated with respect. Many of them have returned later to volunteer.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

give them a more recognizable name. CRRC is an acronym for "Community Resource & Recreation Center". While I understand the reason for its current name, it would be nice to have something more recognizable.

I was asked to write a review about CRRC of Canyon Lake INC. I look forward to going to the exercise class on Monday's,Wednesday's and Friday's. The staff are so kind and hepful. They do soooooo much more other then exercise classes. They are so involved in Canyon Lake businesses.. and helping people out!!! I love the Christmas show each year, and all the good things they have at this Center. I know the CRRC center will only get better, and better....and if they do get extra support---you can bet it would be put to good use....
Thank you
Margaret Williams

What an amazing organization that makes a difference in our community! The CRRC performs many tasks such as being a local food pantry, providing meals on wheels, lending medical equipment, providing financial counciling, assistance with utilities, childrens sports, exercise and fitness classes, meeting space for events and clubs, thrift store and much more. The organization is the hub for the Canyon Lake community and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to support its mission.

The CRRC helps people. I've seen hungry people being fed, people who needed clothes or shoes being helped with goods from the Thrift Store, Flu Shots being given by the county Health Dept. helping the elderly stay healthy, free blood pressure checks, Line Dancing classes making people feel young again, a wheelchair or potty chair loaned to a post op resident or hugs being given to someone who has just found a job through the help of a job posting. This organization makes a difference in people lives.

Help them develope and participate in more programs that benefit the community. This is the goal of the CRRC and I'm grateful that the board of directors, volunteers and employees work hard everyday to achieve this!

I moved to the Canyon Lake area last summer and was thrilled to learn about aerobic classes at the CRRC. From the first day, both staff and participants have made me feel so welcome and a part of the group. As a result of visiting the CRRC, I have made many new friends and learned about my new community.

My wife and myself both volunteer at the Thrift Store. The work is very rewarding as we feel that we are helping the community. The quality of the staff, both volunteers and paid, are exceptional. We feel the CRRC is like an extended family. The Rec Center is the center of the community. Go to the Rec Center at almost any time and there is some sort of activity in progress. If there was no CRRC then the community would suffer greatly.

I became a volunteer at the Thrift Store after a long medical recovery that forced me into early retirement. I felt lost and unneeded and had way too much time on my hands. I have made many new friends throughthe CRRC organization. The thrift store has brought great meaning and joy to my life.
I see the good that the funds brought in by the store offers
the community everyday. And it cannot help but make one feel good about their small part in obtaining those funds. When a customer comes in and tells you that they got their light bill paid last month when times were hard. Or that their grandmother is getting extra food from the food pantry to subsidize her social security it makes you
want to work at the store even more.

I feel I have grown as an individual in many ways working for this organization. I enjoy helping and sharing with other people more than I ever have before and it has brought a lot of inner peace to my life.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Put heat and air in the Barn area for the men who work out there . Build a better kitchen area for the volunteers and an outside covered picnic area.

I am a "Winter Texan" from Minnesota. In December CRRC had a fun and beautiful Christmas sales event attended by, I'd say, most of the people in the surrounging area. December is also the time some of us "Winter Texans" joined the Line Dancing class and Silver Sneakers exercise program at CRRC. The Line Dancing instructor is Hati Cantu, who has a bright, sunny and effervescent personality and is a fantastic person to be teaching us senior citizens to dance. It takes a lot of patience and perseverance which Hati has, in spades. And our Silver Sneakers exercise instructor, Kristie, is a veritable bundle of energy, always happy and seemingly carefree whenever we see her, whether in our out of CRRC, I wish we could clone her to lead our Silver Sneakers exercise class in Minnesota. I feel that CRRC deserves the $5,000 giveaway for 2011 for all the good they do for ourselves and others within the community.

I live in blaine, minnesota and am in canyon lake, texas for the winter. The Canyon Lake CRRC is a wonderful place with many healthy options for people to stay physically fit. I attend Line Dancing on Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour. I attend Silver Sneakers aerobics for an hour on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Christi is the aerobics instructor and she is awesome. Hati Cantu is the line dancing instructor and she is the sweetest, most wonderful and fun person I have ever met. THis place should be available for the entire nation and there would not be the problem with obesity because moving and exercising is such fun at the Canyon Lake CRRC !!
