My first experience with CRRC was through my personal involvement with the Silver Sneakers exerize program for seniors. These enthusiastic seniors (ranging to age 92!) give it their all and are truly an inspiration.
I soon became aware of the many needs in our community which are being met by
the food bank, financial assistance, thrift shop and sports activities for all ages, especially the basketball program for children.
CRRC board members and staff are good stewards of their resources and put in many hours of their own time both at CRRC and other volunteer activities in the community.
At Christmas time, North Pole Village is a gift to the community, transforming our gym into a magical village for children of all ages.
The Canyon Lake community is blessed with many caring and dedicated people who are willing to reach out and work together for the betterment of all. I am proud to live here and proud of the work of CRRC.

I never realized the wide scope of services provided by CRRC until I attended an orientation meeting for prospective board members. I was amazed at the efficiency of this organization. The Thrift Store provides serviceable items at low cost to members of our community, but the proceeds from Thrift Store sales are used to support the crisis program and recreational programs. The staff maximizes the synergies between the various activities to assure that every penny is well spent.

The Great!

Canyon Lake is a small community in the beautiful Hill Country region of Texas. As with the rest of the country, we grapple with unemployment and a portion of the population that struggles with even the basics of living. That is where CRRC, Community Resource and Recreation Center comes in. They help with a food bank, job center, utilities assistance, and medical equipment supplies. They operate a Thrift Store with clothing, household goods, and numerous equipment sold at a minimum cost.
They also have a recreation center with exercise classes, basketball, volleyball, and other sporting classes for the community.
CRRC is the glue that holds this small community together. Our organization makes every dollar count.

I have had the opportunity to work with clients who come to the Food Bank to receive much needed food. These people are always very grateful for the basic food supplies they receive.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Help to fund a larger gym to accommodate our growing population.

I have been volunteering at the CRRC for a short time now. All of the people I have been working with seem to be such genuine, outgoing, fun-to-work with people. They made me feel at home right on the first day.

I have lived at Canyon Lake for many years and have watched the CRRC grow
from a small group to a really big one. They had big hearts back then and still do. Our community is lucky to have such a wonderful place - to help people in need as well as people who want a fun and safe place to go to be a part of the community.

I came to CRRC in their Silver Sneakers II program. My hands would "go to sleep" and wake me up at night. My doctor recomended that I start a aerobic program that got my hands over my head. The program that I started was led by Kristy Fischer (now Broadway) and I was actually one of the younger members of the class. I was about 54. There were people in the class approaching 90. I thought easy, boy was I wrong. Kristy's program is one of the best in the country and she made exercise fun(but not easy)
In the 6 years that I have been in the class, it has been one of the most positive things that I have ever done. She is one of the most positive people that I have ever met. Although I have had lots of things going on, I have always felt better after each class. I travel alot and have 3 recording of the class and take it with me everywhere.
There are lots of different programs at CRRC, one for all ages and interests. They reach out to the community that is rural around a lake. There is no match anywhere for CRRC. I cannot say enough good things about it!

CRRC of Canyon Lake is an amazing resource, be it providing assistance to those in need of food or utilities, or providing space for people of like hobbies to come together.

Canyon Lake, Texas is a unique area. We have a very diverse demographics; people living in poverty, families with
young children, to those that spend the strictly the winters here, or those that use this area as a vacation/retirement spot. The need here is all over the gamut. The older populations need the interpersonal connection through exercise, activities, and simple interaction with others. Our youth need a place to provide a safe outlet for their energies and interests. CRRC of Canyon Lake offers that through the food bank, recreation center and activities building, but the bulk of the funding is through donations to their thrift store.

CRRC offers so much to our community! With additional funds, the skies the limit. It would be amazing to see.

We have the best CRRC anywhere. Wide variety of opportunities are available to all ages. The facility is great, especially since we have the new A/C & Heat. The folks who provide the daily programs are the best anywhere. As a Senior, it gives me the oppportunity to meet other folks and have the conviences that otherwise would make me drive many miles to obtain.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Exercise classes for Seniors called Silver Sneakers, Yoga, Weight Watchers, Sports, blood pressure checks and endless opportunities for seniors like myself who need to be involved in the community in which I live. This is a great facility with great personnel who are always there to help us stay involved. I think we are so fortunate to have hard workers who make al this possible.

CRRC has helped me in several ways. It has provided a place to come and meet others who are interested in making our community a better one to live in. I have been a part of two different exercise groups that meet there, and I believe the classes I attend there help my physical and mental health. It has also been used by numerous community organizations: to raise money at Fiish Fries or Craft Sales, and just as a meeting site.
In addition it has been a part of our local Meals on Wheels service, and it regularly serves as a place to donate used items, the sales of which are donated back to the community.

Love this facility and the things it offers. I participate in the Silver Sneakers exercise program, and it has helped me (at the age of 66) lose approximately 30 pounds. It's both a healthy exercise program and a socialization opportunity, and I miss it when we are out of town and I can't find anything else as good. I have friends who play dominoes every week in the building also, and I know they are thankful for a reliable place to meet and socialize. I've attended events there, such as meals to benefit local organizations. It is always in use. That's where I usually get my yearly flu shot also. It just serves all of us in this area in so many different ways. I think the biggest need at the time is an upgraded PA system.

It's always such a pleasure to come to the CRRC. Whether it's for a fund raiser for our community, or exercise or just to socialize over a game of cards, the CRRC sets a high standard in our area. Everyone feels welcomed here.
