CFL helped our family in a way that we couldn't imagine! It provided an escape for us all when we needed it most. We were able to enjoy eachother's company, relax and create memories with Mom that we would not otherwise have. Thank you, CFL for being such a blessing to us! :)

This organization has done wonders for renewing the spirit and fight of its sailors. This is evident in the testimony of the sailors at the Gala. Each year that I help with the Gala, I am in awe of the number of people who attend and give of themselves so generously.

I have been involved with fundraising and friendraising for Crossing the Finish Line for 11 years, or since inception. CFL has been an amazing support for friends and family of loved ones with cancer. By hosting fundraisers it allows the community to "do something" for those adult cancer patients and their families as they face an uncertain future and diagnosis. Many of the organizations that donate to the auction portion of our fundraiser comment on the uniquness of the organization. While there are many cancer organizations that fundraise for research for a cure for cancer... CFL is able to assist those with cancer NOW who might not benefit from the research.

Over the years, I read a lot about Crossing the Finish Line in local media and heard about Pete Bossow and Marci Bossow Schankweiler through mutual friends/neighbors. I was instantly touched by the story and the mission. After experiencing the death of a parent at a young age, I knew personally of the unfair circumstances that the patients and their families find themselves facing. I understood the potential for missed weddings, missed birthdays, missed births -- and had tremendous appreciation for the related power of living in the moment as a family free from cancer worry (if only for a week!) I became more involved in CFL to help families through what was one of the darkest moments in my life and to provide them some semblance of normalcy in a not-so-normal time. I got involved to provide that healing family time that so many patients and caregiving families miss whether for financial, emotional or medical barriers. Every day, CFL brings me sadness and joy. Sadness to see how many young adults are being diagnosed. WHY? WHY? WHY? And joy to know that we're giving them a break from this beast called cancer for a moment in time.

I have been part of this volunteer group since is was initiated in 2004. We do all kinds of clerical jobs and phone calls to patients, volunteers and donors. Many of these tasks are time consuming and do not use the office staff to its best advantage. It is helpful, fiscally wise and rewarding to be able to assist in what ever way we can. Our core group has been the same group of dedicated volunteers for six years and our numbers are growing. I feel we are helping by using the office space when it would normally not be in use, by calling people who can not normally be reached during the day and by doing last minute jobs and menial jobs that would otherwise use office personel. Most of our group has been touched by cancer in some way and we want/need to help. Since we work during the day the evening volunteer session is perfect.

As a sailor I travelled with my husband to a generously donated time share in Cocoa Beach Florida. We spent a glorious week facing the reality of cancer and our future together. This organization, Crossing the Finish Line, truly meets the needs of young cancer patients and their families, in a way that no medical treatment can. It's obvious in many ways what they provide, a trip/vacation, yet the true beauty and benefits are not obvious, as it comes from the heart, mind and soul.

In the fall of 2007 Crossing The Finish Line came into my world and change my life for the better. As a sailor I travelled with my husband to a generously donated time share in Cocoa Beach Florida. We spent a glorious week facing the reality of cancer and our future together. A highlight for me was taking time away from all of my medical appointments. I also quickly realized that being away from friends asking 'cancer' questions was a blessing. I went to an area were no one knew what I was experiencing. It was a well needed escape. My most amazing awakening this week, was that I believed, for the first time, my children and husband will be OK, no matter what life holds. Life moves on and life is truly amazing.

I know they are very good at what they do. I also know without the funds they are limited to what they can do and how many young cancer patients they can serve. A mission that needs to keep moving forward with the kindness & generosity of others.

The Gala was an excellent time where fun was had by all, especially myself. The raffle prizes are outsanding and the silent auction items are phenomanal (a group of friends won a week in wildwood where I had one of my best shore trips ever). In the two years that I have gone to this event I have learned of and met many people who have been helped by this excelent charity, and so I've joined their young donors program. The only critisism I could offer is to get This organization into the mainstream so more people can learn of it and then choose to help.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The joy they bring others while still making our giving seem like fun
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
help a lot of families have one brief moment of normalcy in an otherwise sad, stressful, and terrifying time
Ways to make it better...
There is nothing they could have done to make things better. Now if it hadn't snowed three feet before their last gala and Heather Grahm hadn't bailed it could have been better, but that is mother nature and roller girl's fault
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
raising money I guess, or reaching enough people so that they can know to give their donations
One thing I'd also say is that...
If this review is to earn this charity more money I hope it works, because the people involved work extremely hard to do a great thing for those who really do need it.

CFL is a great organization. It is professional, well-run, and has made a difference in hundreds, if not thousands, of people's lives dealing with cancer. It goes above and beyond a typical non-profit due to the first hand experience of the founder and the management team. It hosts numerous, well-run, and diverse events throughout the year. I cannot say enough about this organization, it deserves national attention and as much financial support as possible.

I knew Marci and Peter Bossow as college students and bore with them as they suffered through Pete's battle with cancer. In the waning days of his life, they were laying the groundwork for an organization that would provide relief for scores of cancer victims and their families. I am stil in awe at the active love that Peter showed almost with his last breath and that gave the impetus to this organization. Over the past ten years, Marci has carried the banner and tirelessly worked on behalf of Crossing the Finish Line. Her creative energy and selfless dedication have inspired hundreds of volunteers to support the cause through participation and volunteer work at galas, fishing tournaments, fashion shows, picnics, and golf outings. As moderator of Pete's fraternity and as one of the original board members, I have supported CFL financially and through staging benefits like an annual baseball game fundraiser. The fraternity and I want to show our faith in Marci, in CFL, and in its mission of serving people in dire need of compassion. Our hope is that this enterprise wil continue to thrive and that it will be able to expand to the national level. I have confidents that with Marci's leadership and with the hard work of all of us the early dream of Pete and Marci will become living reality for people across the country.
