Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary
Invite reviews
Thanks to Critter Camp, our pet store was able to help abandoned, abused and unwanted pet rabbits dumped at shelters to find wonderful, loving forever homes. Volunteers from this rescue would happily and willingly travel as far as they needed to bring the helpless bunnies to us. This rescue very obviously loves and cares for animals, as well as their human caretakers, far more than most. You can see the compassion a mile away!

Beth has done an amazing job providing a happy, healthy shelter for exotics that would otherwise be abandoned or euthanized. Her love and support are endless. I visited and was truly impressed by the range of animals she is able to give sanctuary, so that they can live out their normal life span in a safe environment. She and her daughter came to the library where I work to talk about all the things you need to take into consideration when choosing (or NOT choosing) an exotic animal as a pet. They brought a range of critters along that the kids and parents could touch - a fabulous experience. Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary is a fantastic resource for Northern IL!
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I have house rabbits, and Beth has been a great resource of information for health and behavior concerns.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I'd love to see Critter Camp in it's own building, where people could visit more frequently, and more exotic animals could be rescued and housed.
We worked with Beth in a joint Girl Scout/Critter Camp project. Beth and all Critter Camp volunteers give everything they can to enhance the lives of these animals. They research their personality, health, and lifestyle needs prior to accepting any exotic animals. The animals, housed in their home and barn, receive comfort, kindness, cuddles, fresh fruits and vegetables. The volunteers do everything from cleaning bedding, feeding fellow volunteers, walking the fox, and feeding hedge hogs. It's a wonderful place! I have never met a person more genuinely caring than Beth.

Thank Beth for everything she does and build the much needed facility. Then keep Beth in charge because no one could provide a better home for these animals.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Knowing we were supporting a worth while organization.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Kind, generous, hard working, intelligent and unendingly caring.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Build it's facility, give Beth a day off! Pay for medical care. Assist with the purchase of fresh fruits and veggies. Each animal is fed a specific diet suited for their digestive system.
Ways to make it better...
It could not have been better.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Too many rescued animals, not enough space! They need enough donations to build an additional facility to house the animals. They also need more donations to cover the medical and food costs.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I have never met a more worthwhile organization.

To see so many different animals in one house, cared for with love and compassion is truly an amazing sight and a joyful sound! To know that these little critters may have died if not for the love and care of Beth.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
developing partnerships with local businesses to help support the animals.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
be begging for help all the time. There is so much work to do, yet there are no complaints or stresses. I would be alsking everyone I met to support this worthy cause.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
learning about the different breeds of animals, and that comercially available food may not be the best nutrition for them.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
kind and compassionate and explained things to me in a way that I could understand.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
build a sanctuary to house the animals and pay for continuing Vet care. It could develop a education center so people could experiene exotic animals before they purchased something that they might not be able to keep.
Ways to make it better...
Critter Camp had the room to house the animals in seperate areas. There is a limit in how many animals that can be cared for, and I would like to see them have that sanctuary they are planning.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
the ammount of space it has. The plans are in plae to build a sanctuary, and funding is needed from orginizations and private individuals to help build this piece of exotic animal care history.
One thing I'd also say is that...
when there is a need, and we are not able to be there in person to help with the work, or purchase the food, then financial support is the next best way to help.

a great charity with a great constitution -that humanity bred exotic pets for their own enjoyment, and that abandonment of these pets is not acceptable. Great photos, and a great mission.
