The staff at Crisis nursery are among the most caring, real, and beautiful people. We are in the process of becoming foster parents and completed our 10 week training tonight and are proud to be working along side such a wonderful agency serving our communities and children here in Arizona.

I have donated to Crisis Nursery in the past; and have become close with many members of the shelter. I am constantly impressed with the strength, nurturing, and dedication of the entire staff. They truly do what they do to help children in need, not for any glory or recognition. They give of themselves selflessly and our community is fortunate to have the people of Crisis Nursery working so hard!

I was moved by the stories of the children that Crisis Nursery serves. It is a worthwhile cause and one that certainly deserves the money I was personally able to donate.

The Crisis Nursery has a dedicated and passionate staff and board. The children are served with safety, health care, schooling, and love. The parents are served with parenting skills, and respit, and confidence building - often leading to more financial stability. The Nursery has adapted to the needs of the community and is now also training foster parents. THe Nursery operates on a fiscally sound basis.

I have my Foster Parenting license through Crisis Nursery and have felt part of a family since my training began. This organization goes out of its way to meet the needs of the children and Foster Parents. They strive to keep a good balance for all parties involved and most of all to ensure every placement is a good match. The knowledge and hearts of each employee seems to be unmatched by another organize that provides the services they due. I give them my thanks each and every day.

I have worked at Crisis Nursery for four years and feel like part of a family. This organization goes out of its way to meet the needs of the community and strives to keep families together and children safe.
When a need for day respite was noted in the community to help parents on a temporary
basis while they look for a job or a shelter or a attend a class, Crisis Nursery created a program to meet that need. Crisis Nursery took the initiative to apply for an Early Head Start program and change their daycare program to become focused on Early Childhood Development, while also providing parents with resources and children with explosive behaviors positive techniques to cope with their anger and sadness. Crisis Nursery's foster care department goes out of their way to provide individualized care to our foster parents to ensure that they are receiving the support they need while caring for children in the DES/CPS system. Included in this are care packages for newly placed children, monthly support groups, attending meetings/court with the foster parents, monthly home visits, and regular trainings. Crisis Nursery cares about their clients and their employees.

Having been involved with other non-profits over the years, I can't begin to express how fortunate Crisis Nursery is to have Marsha Porter and her team leading this wonderful organization. This is my 5th year on the board and it still gives me great pleasure to see the enthusiasm with which everyone takes on the challenges of protecting the most vulnerable in our community. The genuine joy and satisfaction of a job well done are apparent from all that I've interacted with. I am honored to have been chosen to be the next president of the board and am proud to be associated with so many capable and dedicated people.

When Crisis Nursery opened its doors more than 30 years ago, I volunteered to rock babies. How we have evolved since then. Babies still are rocked but Crisis Nursery is so much more. Our mission is to break the cycle or child abuse. We work with parents to teach positive skills; we screen kids for possible health issues; we have a day respite center as well as a 24/7 shelter. In a separate building we have FACES, an early head start program for at risk preschoolers preparing them to succeed in school. We have a home visitation program for young mothers as well as a foster care training program. Best of all is the staff at Crisis Nursery. The pay isn't stellar but their attitudes are. They are passionate about what they do. I now sit on the policy board of the Nursery and I am proud to be associated with such a fine non-profit organization.

I have seen a child who was brought in by the police, trembling and frightened evolve into a happy youngster with a safe place to sleep, clean clothes and three daily meals, toys to play with and nurturing adults that never strike her. I have seen children laughing on the playground many for the first time ever. I have seen youngsters playing with a visiting puppy. I have rocked a six-month old baby with a black eye until he fell asleep in my arms.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Raise funds to enable Crisis Nursery to continue its current work and start a family center program for the immediate neighborhood which is far below the poverty level.

My husband and I had been searching for a charity to become involved with. Friends had been involved with Crisis Nursery over the years and they constantly complimented the programming and services offered to the Phoenix community. For the past 7 years we have attended the luncheon and in the past two years have became involved on the board. We are honored to be apart of this outstanding organization.

I have been a volunteer for nearly five years, spending time most Sundays with the children at the shelter. I always leave the shelter feeling good that these children have a safe place to stay and are in such good hands. The staff are incredibly loving beings who care about each and every child in their charge.

I recently joined the board and have even more confidence that Crisis Nursery is one of the best nonprofits in Phoenix playing a vital role in breaking the cycle of family violence.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

ensure they had adequate resources to market their services to all the families needing the support and counseling that Crisis Nursery provides. I would also expand resources to enable them to provide more services to those in need.
