Covenant house florida, inc. (the organization) was incorporated in march 1983 as a florida nonprofit organization and is an affiliate of covenant house, inc. The organization was established to shelter homeless and runaway youths. The parent is the sole member of the organization and is a private, not-for-profit agency, which, through its affiliates, offered shelter, food, clothing, counseling, medical attention, crisis intervention, and other services to 1,982 unduplicated runaway and homeless youth during the current fiscal year. Covenant house florida will continue to fulfill its mission by providing shelter and services to children and youth who are homeless or at great risk. We will make every effort to reunite kids with their families. We will collaborate with community agencies and associations and actively participate in community efforts to improve the conditions of families and children. Provided shelter and support services to 819 unduplicated runaway, homeless, and at-risk youths under the age of 21 during the fiscal year ending june 30, 2014 (581 in fort lauderdale and 238 in orlando). A total of 1,225 youths were admitted for emergency shelter (943 in fort lauderdale and 282 in orlando) who received 35,471 days of crisis care (food, shelter, clothing, case management, health services, parenting education, independent living skills instruction, individual/family counseling, job readiness training, education, etc. ) at the fort lauderdale and orlando shelters.
the mother/child program provides emergency shelter, food, and counseling to runaway and homeless youth with infants/toddlers. A total of 259 individuals were helped (91 pregnant girls/young mothers and their 73 babies in ft. Lauderdale and 52 pregnant girls/young mothers and their 43 babies in orlando).
the rights of passage program provides transitional housing services for up to 24 months to youths, including individual counseling and help with completing education and finding jobs and housing. A total of 120 youths (35 in fort lauderdale and 85 in orlando) received 15,649 days of transitional housing (5,429 in ft. Lauderdale and 10,220 in orlando).
