Location: 40 Exchange Place, Suite 1302 NY, NY NY 10005 USA

Mission: COJECO is a central coordinating body in the Russian Jewish community of NY that works towards the successful integration of Russian Jews into American Jewish life.  Together we are working towards achieving the Jewish communal goals of caring for those in need, strengthening bonds among the Jewish people, and fostering Jewish identity and renewal.
Results: With 33 member organizations and a slew of community programming projects, COJECO has become the go-to-place for the Russian-speaking Jewish community. Member Organizations – we support our 33 member organizations through grants, advocating on their behalf, providing logistical and financial support, connecting them to other potential funders, and providing support in implementation of programs and projects. Project Gesher - provides positive informal Jewish educational experiences to Russian-speaking Jewish children attending private day care centers in New York City where Gesher-trained Russian Jewish college students serve as teachers. The initiative is based on the "for the community by the community" philosophy and helps both children and their young role models develop a positive Jewish identity. Center Without Walls – works to promote and strengthen the dialogue between Russian speaking Jews and the American Jewish community. Our work helps various Jewish organizations in the New York City area attract and work successfully with American Jews from Russian-speaking families while introducing Russian-speaking Jews to the richness of the American Jewish community. Prins Foundation – a program that assists Jewish professionals from the former Soviet Union to come to the United States and rebuild their professional and personal lives. MiniGrant Project – A project of Center Without Walls that gives unaffiliated creative Russian-speaking Jews the ability to build their own innovative community projects. Leadership – COJECO hosts and sponsors numerous leadership initiatives and fellowships that help reinvigorate the young Russian-speaking Jewish community through educational and leadership training seminars, workshops, trips, and lectures. Advocacy – we provide effective advocacy and representation for the Russian-speaking Jewish Community by working with social, state, and federal organizations.

For several years I had an idea for a community art project, but I couldn't pull it off on my own. Last year I found out about COJECO and asked them for assistance. COJECO helped me to finance my project and connected me to the institutions that might be interested in hosting exhibits of artwork I have gathered. I find COJECO's involvement with my project very professional and sincere, and I know I can always come to them for an advice.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

In selection of the projects to support COJECO is not afraid to step off the beaten path. They give equal attention to promising but "risky" projects and to safe but less challenging ones.

COJECO is great organization and great people! The organization is very openned to the community and brings Jewish Russians together in NYC. Also, the events and programs proposed are very interesting (open art museums, shows, concerts, trips, etc...). I highly recommend to all Russian Jews in the NY area to check out COJECO!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

simply great! The staff is amazing, very organized, open to the community, helpfull, you can really feel the positive energy!!!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

get a better chance to grow and offer more activities and help to the community.

I have been working with COJECO's Day Care program for 4 years now and I believe it is an amzaing program. COJECO gives back a lot to the Jewish community and its children. Without this program many Jewish people would not be getting the help they are and our children may not be getting jewish education that we provide them. It is a one of a kind program!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand education to more children. the children which are already getting jewish education have learned a lot over the past few years.

I got involved with COJECO as a result of going to Israel on a trip with my fellow Russian/Jewish emigres after designing The Dance of Life sculpture for the JCC of Staten Island. It was an amasing experience discovering Israel and meeting new friends. Since that time, I participated in a Jewish retreat and received a mini-grant to coordinate a cultural program for Russian/Jewish adults called "Heritage Quest". All these experiences have changed my life and enriched it socially and spiritually. This year, for the first time in 25 years I attended the services for the High Holidays and felt connected and welcome. I thank COJECO for the opportunities to meet new people and personal and professional inspiration.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

my personal life. I have become more open minded and aware of the importance of Jewish traditions in everyday life.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

meeting a diverse group of likeminded individuals and having acces to an abundance of local social events.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

educated, caring, inspired, passionate about what they do.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

bring more valuable programs to Jewish families who were deprived of their culture and heritage groing up.

Ways to make it better...

I learned about COJECO sooner.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...
