Conejo Valley Senior Concerns

I've always wanted to volunteer for a Meals of Wheels program. I am so happy that Senior Concerns is the organization that coordinates this very important program. Scott Porter is my direct contact and I find him to be very organized and easy to work with. First hand I know that my group of Seniors depend on this vital resource. It is also a good way to check in on them on a daily basis.
The Great!
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the care of and guarantee that these wonderful Senior citizens get a good and healthy meal.
Ways to make it better...
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
make this a "free" service to all Seniors in need.
Senior Concerns has provided meals on a no/low fee basis for many years and is instrumental in keeping many people, in our area, healthy both physically and emotionally. Our house-bound residents really perk up when I, and my fellow drivers, come to the door! For some residents, it's their only day-to-day communication with the outside world.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the role of delivering meals to people that are recovering from operations or who can't get to the market or are just not physically or financially able to prepare food for themselves

I deliver meals once a week for Senior Concerns. I love it!! The staff is very organized and always has everything ready and organized when I arrive to pick up the meals for delivery. The have great communication and processes in place. For instance if someone isn't home a cooler is left by the front door and must have ice in order to leave the food.
I have met some very nice people on my route as well.
What a valuable service the people of Thousand Oaks have available to them.

The containers used to transport the food. I don't like them they are bulky and awkward to carry and use.

Not a big deal but I don't like the containers they use to pack the food. They are bulky and awkward.

I have learned a lot more about Thousand Oaks and some of the neighborhoods I never even knew existed. I have lived here my entire life and have never been to many spots. Never knew these kinds of services were available either.
How did this volunteer experience make you feel?
I think it's important for people to help other people without and make a difference in the world. That's why I do this because to those who much, much is expected. I am blessed and want to bless other people.
