Programs: The Opportunity Center will accomplish this mission by providing: * Two separate service centers, for singles and for families with small children, on the ground floor of the Center, providing a broad range of services to help with basic human needs, as well as enabling people to find stability and housing. * 88 units of housing for singles and for families with small children. * Service to the wider community by providing creative responses to homeless-related problems, and engaging the community in service to those who are homeless and in need. * A positive, caring environment, where promoting the innate dignity of every person is the highest concern. 801 Alma Street Family Housing will fulfill this mission by providing 50 units of permanent housing that is affordable to families at or below 35% Area Median Income and support services to enhance the residents' stability in sustainable housing. CWG has created a focal point in Palo Alto for addressing housing issues. It has done this in a way that is a model for other communities: clear goals and projects, community involvement, evidence-based forums and policy-based actions. Because of housing pressures in Palo Alto (little land available, difficult approval processes, high price of real estate) the CWG has been essential to forward movement. BRAVO!

The Community Working Group is an incredibly effective organization that is run almost completely by very dedicated volunteers. It raised the necessary funds to build and open the award-winning Opportunity Center and it continues to pursue other critical affordable housing projects. The CWG has gained great community support for its professionalism, commitment to affordable housing and support of the homeless, and effectiveness in meeting its mission and program objectives.
