Community in Schools of Nassau County, FL is a prime example of an organization that works to help students succeed in school and achieve in life. They work very closely with the schools to provide additional support through several avenues (i.e. tutoring and homework help, individual coaching and mentoring, and behavior management).

They are really making a difference in the lives of children here in Nassau County!

I have personally heard through several different School Board Superintendents the amazing difference that CIS makes with their children. CIS is a great program for all schools!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Can't think of any - they do a great job with limited funding as most nonprofits.

This program is so helpful to individual students! The one-on-one relationships that are built do so much to increase the potential of so many students who do get this type of adult support elsewhere. I have seen grades increase and overall involvement in school and school related activities soar with many students who participate in CIS.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Allow for more staff per site in order to reach more students.

I am a retired teacher and have been a paid homework tutor with CIS for the past two years. The sixth grade students I have helped not only completed their daily homework, but have utilized the time to read Accelerated Reading books, start reports early, practice multiplication tables and prepare for statewide testing through booklets and computer work.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

seeing the students grades improve each quarter that I worked with them.

Dr. Dinwiddie and Mrs. Loyd work tirelessly, enthusiastically, and lovingly to help students in their program, and of course these students benefit enormously from their care and concern. One example of this is the tutoring program, which is held in my facility. The number of tutored students grows constantly, and with the help of the CIS program and tutors, students can be seen working hard to improve themselves both academically and in other ways.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Sensational. They're caring, committed, and truly concerned about the students in their care.

CIS Nassau is one of the reasons the School District of Nassau County continues to be an "A" school district. By meeting the supplementary needs of our students, especially our lowest quartile, CIS improves the overall success of our schools. From basic math and grammer instruction, to teaching job interview skills, CIS does more than fill an academic void; they touch students' lives.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have worked with a Title I teacher, served on the Board, and collborated on projects.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

N.A.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

...the passion of the people and the flexibility in service.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

...always willing to help. They worked with the staff at the school and tried to meet the needs as best they could.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Full-time teacher in every school to address the lowest quartile; after school program in every school-lowest,gifted & others; after school tech teacher; job coach to get a job and help after employment; college and life coach;

Ways to make it better...

...there were a bigger budget and more personnel.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

...funds to provide the level of service they would like to provide.

One thing I'd also say is that...

I started typing my answer to the 10 million dollar question and the form cut me off. As a result, I was unable to explain my response. I went back and wrote a list. I could spend the money!

Best use of funds toward programs. Their administrative costs are the lowest of any educational nonprofit I know of. But, most importantly, CIS provided much needed services to children who otherwise would go without.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the annual report, which clearly identifies outstanding results.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

step back and allow it to continue as it is.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing how the children, and in some cases, the families are positively affected by the programs received.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

the best! The Executive Director brings not only compassion but Fortune 500 management experience to this nonprofit.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

make Nassau County a much better place to live in the future.

Ways to make it better...

more money was raised.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

CIS Nassau is a great investment in the future of Nassau County.
