CIS of Nassau County does an amazing job at connecting at risk youth with leaders in the community. I was encouraged to be able to be a part of connecting students to HOPE. CIS offers hope to students who otherwise may feel as though there is none.

I cannot say enough good comments about this organization in particular the professional caring leader, Susan Milano. You are very lucky to have been able to secure her for your organization. Her passion for the cause is an inspiration to us all.

Best use of funds toward programs. Their administrative costs are the lowest of any educational nonprofit I know of. But, most importantly, CIS provided much needed services to children who otherwise would go without.

the best! The Executive Director brings not only compassion but Fortune 500 management experience to this nonprofit.

make Nassau County a much better place to live in the future.

more money was raised.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

CIS is an amazing program that reaches out to students who struggle and who often drop out without intervention. It teaches the value of a strong work ethic and organizational/study skills as well as academia. It would be a severe detriment to Nassau County's youth if the program was not allowed to continue.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the lives of students who were changed. Several of my students were in the CIS program, and I witnessed their marked improvement in achievement and attitude.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

try to run it as effectively as Susan did!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

observing a student realize that he (or she) can actually be successful in school. Improving a child's confidence in himself is worth it all.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

exemplary in every way. Their passion toward kids and learning was clearly evident.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

change the complexion of education in Nassau County. So many more students could succeed if they just had a little help and knew someone cared.

Ways to make it better...

I had been able to work in CIS full-time.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

lack of funding due to our state/nation's current economic crisis and sometimes the lack of volunteers and/or available teachers.

One thing I'd also say is that...

our district, state, and nation MUST somehow provide the means for this program to continue. The lives of our children and our country are at stake - a price too great NOT to pay.

A fantastic organization bringing real value to the kids in Nassau County by teaching them the benefits of working hard, staying in school and preparing with the skills to be successful once they graduate.

Amazed with the care and commitment of this group to the community it serves. Everyone I have encountered are very professional as well as very positive.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the statics of pre- and post- testing. They actually do improve the scores of the students they service.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

be beyond my wits end. Too much to do and too little time to do it in.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

they are so positive about what they are doing. Everyday I've had the opportunity to volunteer/work with them, they are reviewing the previous year and planning on how to improve next year.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Susan, the Executive Director. She's amazing. So focused. Very concerned about growing the organization with the right people with the right skill sets to really service the children. The Site Coordinators while they were working with the kids. Beauti

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

truly made a difference in Nassau. Fund raising just takes too much time, esp. in this down turned market. They estimate it takes $2500 to provide services to 5 kids each year. They service over a thousand.

Ways to make it better...

had more time in the day to devote to this cause.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

1 finding enough funds to service the children in need, 2. finding enough volunteers to work w/ the kids daily, & 3 name recognition.. Not everyone knows who they are

One thing I'd also say is that...

if they had that million bucks, they would be truly amazing.

As a retired superintendent of schools, I was interested in the program in Nassau County. I attended several functions and visited schools to speak with students, teachers and administrators. This program is one of the best I have seen in my 40 years in public education. I was asked to serve on the Nassau CIS Board and enthusiastically said yes. The CIS Board, the school administration and the community provide excellent support for the children in Nassau whose needs range from a little help just to catch up to those students who not only need CIS help but also help from other agencies. This is and excellent program that I not only support with donations but also time.

The Great!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the improvement of students academic skills and their attitude toward school. I would hate to imagine the problems the school would have without this program. I will do my best to see that this program continues for the youth in Nassau Co Public Schools.

Ways to make it better...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

continue to support, assist, and develop programs that have evidence of improving student achievement and creating an atmosphere of respect for school and the work place.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the total commitment to the needs of the students by the CIS staff and volunteers. I have also enjoyed the specific activities and personally working with these young people.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

were committed to the implementation of the various programs and skilled in their approach to the individual child and the groups of children.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

expand the services offered to all students who are struggling in the the academic proficiencies required by the federal and state regulations. Intensive services could reach more children and the dropout rate would be reduced significantly.

Ways to make it better...

I had done more homework prior to visits to be better informed of the programs. However, it was probably better the way I did it since my expectations were not great based on some previous experiences in other school districts. The program was excellent.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the continual struggle for funds to expand the programs to all schools and provide additional support for students in danger of dropping out of school.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the Nassau County Communities in Schools program is well organized and staffed by some of the most caring, professional and qualified staff I have encountered in my years in public education. I wish we could do more and would with more funds.
