COMMONWEAL THEATRE COMPANY
The impression one may receive of The Commonweal organization might seem like a fantasy when read by someone outside of the area; but in fact, it is all real. Our personal experience with Commonweal goes back to the mid-1990's. They have continuously provided high quality, enjoyable, challenging theatre experiences. We are also impressed with their additional projects - civic involvement, teaching theatre classes at area high schools and colleges, conducting an internationally recognized Ibsen Festival, hosting an Apprentice Company for aspiring artists, creating a live weekly summer radio show, etc. Now the reality part - all this takes place in a rural community of approximately 780 people in SE Minnesota. We will continue to support and enjoy this theatre company. Commonweal professionals brought great theatre to over 25,000 folks in 2009, and we are confident this will continue into the future.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
attending their productions continuously since mid 1990's, and their promotion of high quality professional theatre to a rural environment. A most important feature is that the Commonweal staff become a part of their community.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the dedication of all Commonweal professionals to quality theatre and their involvement in the management aspect of the theatre.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
friendly, helpful, willing to put time and effort into the community and region along with their acting, management duties.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
pay off their new theatre building, and expand staff to promote live professional theatre more to their service area. Also, this could lead to a second parallel season offering more theatre variety, lectures, and musical entertainment.
