COMFORT FOR AMERICA'S UNIFORMED SERVICES
Rating: 4.67 stars 15 reviews
Issues: Human Services
Location: 4114 Legato Road Suite B Fairfax VA 22033 USA
Target demographics: Injured and wounded members of the US Armed Services and their family members at military medical centers in the United States and Germany.
Programs: Cause Digital Entertainment Library (C-DEL): The seven C-DEL library branches at Walter Reed, Brooke Army Medical Center, Landstuhl, San Diego Naval Medical Center, Ft. Hood, & Ft. Bragg provide convenient access to DVDs, video games, and gaming systems at no cost. The library, often the only source of free entertainment on post is extremely popular with the wounded warriors and their families.
The Cause massage and Reiki (a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing) program is available at Walter Reed, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Belvoir, Fort Riley, and Ft. Hood. Massage and Reiki are key components of the military's combat reset and resiliency programs. The demand for these modalities far exceeds capacity and Cause is helping the military fill this critical, under-resourced need.
Monthly brunches and game nights at Walter Reed & Fort Belvoir give wounded warriors and family members a break from cafeteria food and microwaved meals. Brunches are sponsored by community groups who serve alongside Cause volunteers.
Fisher House Dinners occur as planned. Community groups prepare and serve a meal to Fisher House residents, and then stay to interact with the service members and their families.
